It was run by a wonderful family who greeted you with a big smile, great food and service. Not now. We went back after not eating here for six months and we will never go back. The lady serving us had dirty clothes on, took nearly 10 minutes to take our order while there was only another couple in the restaurant and after we commented on the poor quality of the food proceeded to argue with us how the food was better than what the previous owners served. Sad that a great sushi restaurant has been reduced to this.
We have been going to Shochiku every couple of months for years and have always enjoyed the food and especially the yam tempura roles with black rice. Our most recent visit however was very different. The place is obviously under new management and the new people have obviously never run or worked at any type of food service business before. The server/ cook/ hostess/ busser tried her best and was very pleasant with our family but could not overcome the many challenges she faced. I don't want to be cruel or mean-spirited so I will just say that the new operation needs lots of work before they are going to be a success. We will be looking elsewhere for our sushi fix from now on.
Had diner at this place on friday night.The place was so cold had to keep on our winter coats.ordered the chn-y-soba waited 35 min. the noodles were over cooked and sloppy,the food was burnt on the bottom and stuck to the dish.this was the worst food I have ever had, left most on the plate.new owners do not have a clue.save your money go some where else, any where else...
I do not know who selected this restaurant as the "best sushi restaurant" in white Rock. Had lunch and the place was freezing cold. They put a heater on my table which with the tea warmed a little bit. The miso soup was tasty but not very hot. Ordered a Bento Box E which had 4 pieces of "California Roll" which reminded me of a California roll I once bought in a supermarket (pre packed) The Tempura had the appearance of a re-warmed tempura and tasted accordingly. (Did not eat all) To my surprise there where 7 tiny yellow pieces in one of the areas of the bento box. I inquired and where told that is very good and healthy horseradish. I tried one piece and left the 6 others. (And I like horseradish a lot) Would like to know what a re-warmed spring roll does in a Japanese bento box. Wanted to pay with my credit card but apparently their machine did not worked and we had to go to a store next door to run it through. (It looked like this problem was going on longer.) The price for my lunch would have been ok if the food had any quality and standards. This is not the worst sushi place I have ever been but certainly in White Rock there are more places which serve better, fresher and higher quality sushi.
I have been a regular customer of Sho Chiku for a long time and used to enjoy their food. This place used to be run by very nice Korean people that made good food. I had a horrible experience there recently when I ordered take out. When I arrived to the restaurant it was dirty, disorganized and the staff was all new which concerned me but I made the mistake of still picking up my food. There was a young girl there who took my order, about 9 years old, whom I had never seen before. When I brought it home, the food was poorly presented, looked old like it had been made days earlier, smelled badly of old fish and was very skimpy compared to my previous orders. I had one bite of a roll and had to spit it out it was so disgusting. I have never eaten more disgusting sushi in my life. It was so bad I decided to return it which I have also never done before. When I got there the new woman denied that there were new owners and argued with me about the quality and cleanliness and refused to give me my money back because ONE piece of a roll out of my $60.00 order was eaten. Finally she agreed to give me back $40.00 and charge me $20 for the single piece of the roll. The woman was rude, argumentative and frantic, terrible customer service. This place has been completely ruined by new Chinese owners and I will NEVER go back there. DO NOT go to this place it is foul!!!
