This place is about two hours drive for us but every time we have a chance I take the detour from I5. Food is delectable, view is amazing, the service top notch If you like seafood, you must try it!
Until 1931, Chuckanut Drive was part of the Pacific Highway used by people driving from California to Vancouver. There is a much faster road today but it doesn't offer glorious views like the old route. Nor does it have a fine restaurant overlooking Samish Bay oyster beds. Of course the molluscs are a menu feature but there is plenty more offered. Our starter was a delicious combination of seasonal greens with walnuts, blue cheese, red onions, apples, and grapes with a maple cider vinaigrette. I had the seafood stew, which was fine except I found the pistou sauce slightly overpowered subtle tastes of the broth and the proteins. She had the sable fish special and found it attractive and well prepared, but a little too busy with numerous additions. Sometimes less is more when serving high quality seafood. This is not fast food, nor is it inexpensive, but the total experience is worthwhile.
The ambiance was lovely with views of the water on a sunny summer evening. We enjoyed the rich and creamy oysters, wine, and warm bread. My seafood stew lacked flavor. Although it did mention there would be a broth base, I thought the word “stew” meant it would be a bit thicker in consistency. My partner got the special which was venison with a pork reduction sauce. It was perfectly tender and delicious, however the potatoes and vegetables also lacked flavor. Lastly, we thought the halibut chowder was very soupy, and also tasted bland. The overall quality and presentation was well thought out, and the wait staff really knew how often to come around while being extremely friendly! Would like to visit again and try other items that looked appetizing!
Every penny worth it. Had a nice farewell for our buddy here to overseas. I appreciate they're not too worried. We were certainly not the worst dressed party (see a guy in a South Park T-shirt last time I was there. I also appreciate the NO children (under 14? politics. Great menu choices, excellent view, extensive wine selection, fabulous service, beautiful atmosphere. It's expensive for a reason. Find out why...
