The Park Trestle is our very favorite place to eat in Wainwright. Great staff the chef, Dora Cote was a finalist on the Food Network program, Master Chef Season 1. The atmosphere is relaxed, with very nice décor. The menu is creative,...unique and items change from time to time all of it very delicious, with options for everyone. There 's a daily soup and sandwich special at lunch time. Wednesday is Wing night. Sometimes there is live entertainment. Catering can be arranged, There is a large banquet room and an outdoor patio in the back. It is a bar lounge with a very nice atmosphere that serves far better than the typical pub grub , so you do have to be 18 or over, to go in. We enjoy going there for a nice lunch or dinner with drinks, as opposed to .
My wife wanted to go here because she said a contestant who got far in MasterChef ran the restaurant and the food was apparently amazing. Not sure if her facts are correct. It was our anniversary and we thought as a special occasion we would...drive to Wainwright and go to this pub restaurant. She hyped it up a lot, which no doubt led to my disappointment. It was nice and quiet when we arrived, so we expected to be in for a treat as the chef would be able to focus on our meals. Our shared appetizer an order of wings came out fresh from the fryer and were DELICIOUS. Perfect amount of breading (some places coat their wings in so much breading it 's disgusting , hot and meaty and covered in a delectable honey garlic sauce. They were lip smacking, finger licking good. Our entrees arrived just as we were wiping off our hands from the messy wings; perfect timing. My wife had ordered a BLT with added chicken, with a side of mushroom soup. It was their special of the day. I 'm a picky eater and don 't like much, so pretty much always order a burger wherever we go. I ordered their Park burger without most of the fillings (just kept the tomato , and added in bacon and a slice of cheese, which set me back $2.50 and $2.00 respectively (yikes . Their tornado fries machine was out of order, so I ordered yam fries instead, which set me back another $2.00. My meal ended up far more expensive than my wife 's BLT! The high price would 've been worth it had the quality been there. The $15 wings just about earned their right to be priced that high based on how good they were. The rest of the food though, was disappointing. My wife enjoyed her BLT but said the bread was greasy (her words . She said it seemed like they 'd spread butter on the outside of the sandwich before serving it. As for the mushroom soup, she said it tasted like it needed to cook for another day to get any flavour. She said it lacked seasoning, and that she could cook something better up herself. It did have pieces of real mushrooms in it, which looked nice and hearty. As for my meal, I too felt there was a lack of seasoning. The patty looked homemade as it wasn 't perfectly shaped, but it had absolutely no flavour. I almost wanted to sprinkle salt on it, it was that lacking. My wife said it 's because all the flavour was in the toppings (aioli, onions , but I pointed out that I ALWAYS get plain bacon cheeseburgers when we go out to eat, and I 've never had such a bland tasting burger as this. Even though I don 't particularly like lots of ketchup, I ended up dipping it in ketchup just to give it some taste. The sweet potato fries, which the waitress had heartily recommended, were perhaps my biggest disappointment. They came out looking somewhat black and burnt. We 've been to three different restaurants lately and all their sweet potato fries were what I would consider burnt. So maybe that 's how chefs cook them these days. There were one or two that were still fairly orange, but the rest were black. They were thin cut so when I bit in to them they just sort of disappeared in my mouth, breaking in to an ashy puff. And again, zero seasoning so they had no taste. My wife tried a couple and agreed on the burnt front, and also that they had no flavour. She said they didn 't even taste like sweet potato; they literally had no flavour. So again I sprinkled salt on them to try to rescue them, but I still left quite a few on my plate. We drove home slightly full and fairly disappointed. Had the meals been better we would have been tempted to try a dessert, but we didn 't want to risk repeating the disappointment. So we headed back home to Lloydminster and grabbed ourselves a Marble Slab for dessert, and we 're going out to The Sawmill tomorrow as a sort of second attempt at celebrating our anniversary through dining...! When we ordered and were told about the tornado fry machine not working, I had thought to myself that maybe we should come back when it 's fixed so we can try their fries. But now I don 't think we can be bothered. Don 't get me wrong, the waitress (Eden did her best (and got my burger order spot on despite not writing it down! , the food came out hot and fresh, but it was just a bit overpriced and very underseasoned. Not quite what we had been expecting.
Stopped in for supper. Pretty trendy decor. Our server was friendly and came around often enough. They were out of a lot of stuff, food and beer, which was disappointing. That being said, the drinks they did have were good, ie. their cocktails. The food...was only just okay. A little expensive overall but I'd probably go back and assuming their supply problems were a one-off I could see being a regular.
