1979 Taphouse & Grill - Wainwright

I thought the food was good, not iver the top fantastic but the fact that someone was dressed in a huge velociraptor costume was spontaneously walking around the place made it beyond memorable.

This has become my sports bar while here in Wainwright. The owner has been very accommodating for Americans who want to watch basketball in the middle of the NHL playoffs. Edmonton Oilers

I ordered the 10oz New York strip sirloin Dinner meal, which cost $30, and it was the worst steak I’ve ever had. Zero flavor and hard to chew. I immediately asked for Au Jus just to make it palatable. Absolutely unacceptable to serve this garbage and am not even sure it was the actual cut of meat as advertised. The salad was just okay, but it comes in the smallest bowl possible so if you ask for the dressing on the side it’s impossible to mix. The fries were not bad.

Slow service and mediocre overpriced food. Loads of TVs if you just want to drink and watch a game, but there are definitely better places to eat in Wainwright.Parking: It's just a dirt lot, but it's pretty big.

My husband and I have only been out to eat in Wainwright twice since moving here in 2021, last week we had a date night and chose 1979 bar grill. And let me tell you, the food was AMAZING ? SO SO GOOD, I can not wait to go back, I'm thinking I'll be going there for my birthday supper! Only downside, our waitress took a bit to come back and check on us while we had our meals so my sauce arrived when my food was cold, but honestly it was still incredibly tasting.Such a good experience good atmosphere wise!
