The whole operation is run by a really kind Japanese couple, who is very attentive and consistent with the quality of food. My personal favourite is the little wrap dish with the radish, which is served as a palate cleanser before the nigiris. This tastes SO refreshing, clean, and light I could eat ten of these. All the nigiris also taste super fresh. I also loved how the tempura actually appears to have been fried in clean oil, as evidenced by its colour. The steamed egg speaks for itself the egg itself is so soft and fine, but the vegetables/shrimp in it maintain its texture/integrity. Although it may be a bit of a drive, I highly recommend dining here for their kaiseki for $80/per person. The value is unmatched to the other kaiseki 's I 've had in Vancouver. I 've added my name to the cancellation list on behalf of my parents I know they 'll love it, too. If you have the opportunity to go, make sure you sort out your next reservation while you 're there!
Worth the hype. Reservations start 6 months in advance so call early. Best bang for your buck onakase in
Everything was delicious. This is a fantastic deal for quality omakase. Each bite was perfectly executed.
It was a 6-month wait to come to Yugafu for their Omakase Keiseki and while it was good, I would hedge to say it was a 6-month-wait good. At this level of hype, we are no longer talking about how fresh the food is, but how differently they must rise above the other omakase-serving Japanese restaurants of the same repute in the Lower Mainland. I would forego the chawan mushi, the palate cleansing raw fish-radish-roll, and doughy dessert for just a simple ice-cream mochi . The pick of the lot would have to be the grilled black cod with miso, which I would be more than happy to pay $35 just to have that served like an oyakodon, with the black cod superseding the chicken-egg-scallions. The 9-piece nigiri was a big filler-upper, but by then, my hollow legs were stuffed, and I had the pleasant experience of sharing the extras with my son.
