The go-to spot for Ethiopian for my wife and I. Food is insanely tasty and filling, and the service is always friendly, informative, and flexible. The location isn't glamorous, but the restaurant itself is nice on the inside and the experience is hard to beat. Great food for both meat eaters and vegetarians alike. One thing we love is that they offer 100% teff-flour injeras, which are perfect for my wife with Celiac, or anyone else who eats gluten free. I can't guarantee they don't cross-contaminate, but my wife never reported any problems.
It was my first time trying Ethiopian food. Tried the Meat combo it was flavorful and is definitely good enough for two people. The owner was very sweet and welcoming as well! Will be back.
Mudai Restaurant is a hidden gem in the downtown area of San Jose. The food is absolutely delicious and delightful, made with savory spices and always fresh. The spongy and malty bread called Injera compliments the food. The service is always great and served with a smile. We love this establishment and visit often. Try their Honey wine, it pairs well with any choice of entree you pick. Our favorite is the Veggie Combo, served family style. As a reminder of Ethiopian food, it is served without utensils so be prepared to eat with your hands/fingers. Parking is limited so be prepared for that too. Enjoy!Parking: Street parking only, best to park across the street of San Carlos.
I’m glad I didn’t check the review before I went there. I randomly came here because we were nearby and needed to eat something quickly on our way. I probably would not have gone there if I read the previous reviews. I seriously do not understand why people are complaining about this restaurant. You can sense it’s a family run business so the owner is very relaxed and friendly. The decor is not five star style and can look almost sketchy from outside but As you walk around the corner to find the front door, you can already smell the delicious aroma, you know already they are going to have good food. Surely it didn’t disappoint. The salad was so fresh and delicious, the sandwich was extremely yummy and the lamb dish was absolutely excellent. Of course we were surprised by the kind of bread that goes with it, but this is the way how you are exposed to other ethnicity food, plus the bread tastes like sourdough, so we loved it. If someone wants Indian food or Chinese food, maybe you shouldn’t come to a Ethiopian restaurant. In terms of the food quality and taste, this is absolutely delicious. We will come back.
