Not to date myself but I remember eating here as young as 10 years old so this place has been here for at least 25 years. Post COVID reflection is that if a small business was able to keep afloat during such a challenging time in the decade then it should speak for itself in how the community shows up for it. Most recently, we ordered a few items ToGo. Portion sizes were relatively generous giving how the prices have increased so significantly. We ordered the BBQ Pork Chop Special, BBQ Chicken Special, and the BBQ Beef Special. Flavors were on point as always, and the Shrimp Cake and Egg Cakes always seem to bring in a nostalgic feeling. Hits the spot every time and it never fails.Support local small businesses y'all they can only continue thriving this way.
Stopped by this little hole in the wall for some com tam rice plates, and I was actually blown away with how authentic and comforting everything I tried was. I'm not a super big fan of rice so I rarely frequent these spots, but you definitely can't beat their HUGE portions and deliciously grilled/fried meat items. My favorites were the fried shrimp paste, but my plate also came with 5 other types of meat as well as vegetables and complimentary Thai chilis fish sauce at the table. They also carry other traditional Vietnamese dishes such as hu tieu (my fave), so I'll have to definitely check that out next time! The bathroom and utensils could definitely be cleaner, but overall, definitely worth stopping by or getting takeout if you're craving a rice dish and want to get the bang for your buck!
The Vietnamese food at this restaurant is authentic and delicious. The chili is hand-crushed, giving it a spicy kick that you can really feel!
I order pick up from this restaurant, one of the best broken rice I ever had!!
I visited this restaurant on a Saturday around noon. There were plenty of available seats and parking was no problem. I have been aware of this place for about 15 to 20 years, always catching a whiff of it while driving by, but I never actually dined here until now. Typically, if I am craving com tam, I would go to a pho place since San Jose is a bit of a hassle to drive to just for food. I decided to try the #7 dish, and to sum it up, it was really amazing. The egg cake, shrimp cake, and sugarcane were delicious, but the grilled shrimp stole the show with its perfect cook and juiciness. Surprisingly, I don't usually enjoy shrimp that much. The beef ribs were decent, but probably the least impressive part of the meal. The portions were generous, which is fitting for the price. The food was a bit salty, but still tasty. After 20 years of curiosity, my dream of dining at this restaurant finally came true, and it exceeded my expectations set by the inviting smell I always noticed while driving past.
