Piora in New York City is a very stylish and eclectic restaurant that has more than the sum of its parts. Negroni and Perfect Manhattan cocktails set the mood. For the parts, there are a la carte dishes served as HOT and Cold, Mandoo, Pasta and Entrée. Unless one orders the Tasting Menu, you have to navigate through a Q&A session with the waiter on what each category offers and what food pairings go well together and what wine complements each. As a first time diner at Piora, I felt a list of FAQs on the menu would have answered my culinary questions. We started with the Pacific Crab from the Hot and Cold selections. The dish consisted of cucumber, kumquat, Thai basil and wasabi. It tasted salty to my tongue. Next was delicious Pasta called Bucatini, which was Dungeness crab with black garlic, maitake and chili. The Entrée was Wild Mushrooms served with artichokes, sunflower and aged balsamic vinegar. Service was attentive, the dining room stylish in a refined West Village elegance and the bar was designed to draw you into a culinary microcosm shaped by its differences. Together, the dishes were a mishmash of assorted demi amuse-bouche sparklers that delighted the eye and offered promise for more. By meal’s end, the sum of all these parts served a peaceful minimalism to the table.
Made to wait for over an hour because previous people had turned up late...!!! Surely they should have had a shorter meal, not mess up my evening
Fantastic service, well run, such nice hospitality and amazing food. Simon and Jeffrey are great!
I found Piora to be as creative, precise and delicious as any of the 6/10 Michelin 2* 's I 've been to in NYC. I 'm almost angry with myself for not visiting sooner. The entire FOH staff made me feel special (For no good reason other than my being their guest. Priceless. . Cheers, Piora!
