Picked it because good location for theatre district, which it was. We ate early before a matinee. Menu was limited for early in the day. Food was mediocre and seemed premade. Restaurant had a disinfectant smell.
When I stepped inside BXL it felt like I was crossing the border into Belgium. The decor, authentic. The drinks, heavenly. And the staff… well the epitome of everything Belgium. If you are looking for a cozy bar with great food in the heart of NYC, come to BXL for a one of a kind treat. Finally, one word to sun it all: Duvel ?
We were a party of 9 having a pre-theatre lunch. Most of us ordered mussels--different recipes. They were all delicious and the fries were a perfect complement. A treat was to watch the Wimbleton Men's Final while dining and cheering. Alfonso, our server, was terrific and constantly asked if we needed anything. We certainly will return.
BXL Zoute is a Belgian neighborhood spot good for a beer or wine. Early this week, I ate mussels and fries and found the mussels to be ample but the fries were dismal. I prefer shoe string fries. Dessert of the Gauffre de Liège was plated with berries. Service is good but I doubt if I will return as I far prefer it to Boucherie where the moules frites are superb.
