When I asked for some oyster crackers, I got a stale bread basket that might as well have been from last week. For the main, I ordered the Prime Rib Sandwich, which was essentially a toasted bun chucked on the salamander, cheap melted Swiss cheese and prime rib scraps that were as grey as an overcast sky. I'm a New Yorker and I remember this place when it was hopping and full of life. Blame the pandemic, blame the times we live in, but my experience here was just sad. Never coming back. Awful. Go to JG Melon or PJ Clarke's for a great uptown bar atmosphere instead.

Wollensky 's Grill was recommended by our hotel concierge for an early family dinner before a theater date. What a disappointment! We were parched from a full day in the July NYC summer sun but the water glasses were so small that staff could not keep them full and finally just gave up on refilling them, so that we sat at one point for a half hour without any service. Our food was quite slow to arrive, and when it did most of it was cold, including my steak. Our waiter zipped around to other tables but seemed to develop a willful blindness towards us. And not because of any complaints we made, or testy words, or anything like that! There was just an attitude that made things uncomfortable. Our neighboring table was an older guy and two early 20 's who looked like they had just come off the golf course; they were LOUD and every other word was an F bomb it seemed, even the older guy who should really have behaved better. But their food arrived on time and their libations kept coming. The restaurant is attached to the original midtown Smith Wollensky 's location where I 've eaten several times over the past couple decades, and I know all about the near legendary surliness of the wait staff part of the charm right? Well not at the underperforming Grill ; not charming at all.
Steak done to perfection. Service was spot on and drinks were top notch.
