Monday Mar.1, 2010- Been to all the rest-figured give B/D a try-Big Mistake. The place was empty except for 2 tables and the service/food from the start was horrible. It took 20 minutes to get a glass of wine and a bottle of beer. The clams on the half shell had broken shells in them. The fried calamari was like rubber. The 2 lb. rib eye was burnt on the outside, cooked med. rare as requested, was filled w/grizzle and had no flavor, not including the burned exterior. We attempted to alert our server, when he finally came over another 20 minutes had gone by and our concerns were ignored. Our server made no apologies or concessions. Then we got the bread- 3 pieces w/lots of crackers. So with barely half eaten/in-edible food left on the table, our check for $140.00 was promptly delivered. Let 's not forget the car valet was tipped in advance and left the car running, open door and disappeared for over 5 minutes, just a few feet off Northern Blvd. Maybe he was getting the Steal Me sign. So off to Uncle Jack 's Steakhouse on Bell Blvd. where the atmosphere is truly cozy with an extremely attentive staff and delicious food.
The service was incredibly slow. Communication was poor and we had order mistakes. Our waiter, who had a noticeable Long Island accent, was nasty and oddly self important. I wish I could say the food was special but I can't. If I had to sum up Burton and Doyle I'd say: this place is high class posturing with absolutely no substance. Strictly my opinion, of course.
I hadn't been to the Steakhouse in about 2 years and returned last night with out of town guests. I was very disappointed. The steakhouse seems to have moved down a level compared to the other great steakhouses along the 5 mile road that had more than 5 steak restaurants. Next time it's Bryant Coopers.
