We are regular IHG members who stay at the Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley twice a year. This visit we invited our family along praised the experience we had at Redsalt during our stay in June. However, this time was definitely a fall from grace. Our maître d' reception of us our guests was dismal. Our appointed waitstaff wasn't aware of basic etiquette such as napkin placing, only did so to 2 out of the 7 guests seated. Standard procedures such as asking guests for beverage orders did not occur. We had to advise her of the task. We ordered oysters for entrees and again had to request staff for both entree cutlery oyster forks/spoons. Plates were not cleared in timely manners and we were often left to signal staff to clear table after each course. To order mains we had to request another staff member who would call our waitress for service. Meanwhile throughout the course of the evening the staff were gathered in clusters conversating by the counters instead. Compared to June when our service was outstanding this was very poor. So much so that 3 of our guests (including my disabled father) left the dinner before dessert as they were fedup of the long wait. After this experience, we opted to eat downstairs instead. Whilst the meals are not as cultured, the experience due to customer service out-ways the food options available at Redsalt. I highly doubt we'd ever return to Redsalt or recommend to others too! P.s It was also blatantly clear by the staff the tolerance or acceptance they had towards customers of a darker skin pigments. In a multicultural country, where we happen to be born and bred. It was insightful to see the level of racism harbored by staff. Don't think the under the breathe comments, or their gossiping commentary were unnoticed. It only took the dropping of highly priced items before they acknowledged our worth. Both at breakfasts and dinners. Clearly staff have a conception about ethnic patrons their affordability to dine here.
The overall experience was good. However, we felt that we were being rushed out at the end. It felt like the staff wanted us to leave.
Great food and the service was outstanding. Made us feel very special which on this occasion mattered
