I 'd checked earlier that there would be vegetarian options and was told there would be. There were no options Asparagus for starter and stuffed aubergine for mains. Very average. I ordered a glass of white wine and my friend had a glass of red wine. My glass was about half the measure. When I asked why I was told because people usually have red wine with their main meal . I said I was having white wine with my main meal. Waitor in charge then told me the red wine glasses were larger so more wine would be poured. This does not make any sense. According to the cost charged I should have received a quarter of a bottle and when I pointed this out I was told rather sternly that the restaurant had to make a profit! The amount of wine in the glass was approx 80-90 ml. The man who spoke to me was very angry and abrupt with us but did fill my glass a bit more. Next time we are visiting we will go to the Blue Elephant on the harbour front where we had a much better experience.
Visited Restaurant Gisseløre on a wet, gloomy autumn day, luckily our friends knew the way because you might you think you are lost! And double luck to us, the chef wasn’t lost at all, the food was really great and so was the service. Between us we tried a “rillette of kuller (cod family)“, poached cod, Danish prime beef, cheese board, pear crumble and various wines to come with it. It was all very very good, just makes you want to go back for more. Definitely more than a notch up from your standard fare, borderline really fine gourmet experience. Why not 5/5? I’m very difficult to please, so would have wanted more to choose from (but that can backfire so not a major issue), I would have wanted a larger starter (an excellent creamy mushroom soup by the way) and the bread served with butter was a little boring (my opinion). All that said, I can definitely recommend going there and I would go back myself
In summer times this is an excellent place to visit. Nice food and great view over the Fiord. Also perfect for arrangements. We visited for lunch, and both had a Stjerneskud . It was great.
I was treated to dinner here by generous clients after a day 's work in Kalundborg. It was a perfect, secluded, sea side venue in which to unwind and enjoy personal conversations, anecdotes and laughter with colleagues, after a brief walk along the shoreline. We had a set menu that was really delicious and generous in quantity. A shrimp and asparagus starter was accompanied by very nice white wine and the unusual main course, of rare veal fillet in a chorizo crust, with beautiful new potatoes, was accompanied by a rich, fruity, Italian red which complemented it perfectly. The dessert, which included berries and ice cream with a caremelised 'basket work ' toffee fan, came with an even more interesting dessert wine a red one made of a mixture or 'port wine ' and Muscat grapes luscious and refreshing at the same time. Altogether delicious and highly indulgent a luxury end to a working day!
A summer day on Gisseløre was the perfect time to visit this restaurant when the somewhat grubby environment fades away in favour of a spectacular view. The interior of the old wooden building was not too inviting, so we chose the terrace where shade from the sun and shelter from the wind was easily found. From a somewhat pretentious menu we selected a fresh pasta with seafood, and it turned out to be both a good and a bad experience. The generous amounts of truly fresh shrimp, crab meat and scallop were deliciously prepared, and that was the only justification for the very steep price of 265 DKK per person for a pasta dish. Surprisingly the pasta was seriously overcooked into a mushy substance which in my opinion is a disgrace to any chef who claims to be inspired by Italian cuisine. The meal was accompanied by an inharmonious and barely drinkable South African chardonay at 235 DKK per bottle, so the overall experience of the meal was not one of value for money. We were literally the only guests in the restaurant, but the waiter was either too tired or too bored to care much about serving us, and tables after previous guests were left uncleared. What could have been a lovely experience in a beautiful and laid-back setting turned out to be a mediocre show of sloppy performance by people who should know better.
