Rockwood Cafe - CRAWFORD BAY

Absolutely the best in the Kootenays! The beautiful drive is always worth it.

The food was incredible, the atmosphere was wonderful, and the service was friendly and attentive!

The best Chinese food I've ever had! The chicken chow mein was incredible, and the sweet and sour chicken balls paired perfectly with the rice. I can't forget to mention the spring rolls—everything was bursting with flavor!

A Hidden Treasure!. On a recent vacation to Nelson, BC, I took the free ferry from Balfour to Kootenay Bay simply to see some nature. On a quest to find a restaurant in the middle of nowhere, we passed by the Rockwood Cafe. We learned from a near by tackle shop that this was the best Chinese food one would ever find. Sure enough, they were right!Looking at the place from the outside, we wondered how good the Chinese would be of a place offering pizza. On the inside, the sweet couple who owns the restaurant opened our senses to amazing smells and sights. The menu is small, as would be expected in an area where such limited items would be found, but the flavors are huge! I am frequently finding seafood dishes lacking in the amount of seafood added to the plates, but here I found my plate overloaded with fresh prawns and crisp vegetables. The prices were so reasonable considering the amount of food. I worry about a restaurant in the middle of nowhere, like the Rockwood is. I hope it is able to survive because this is truly a gem.

Real Chinese food, really good! A must try when exploring the East Shore.
