We went up the Lake Louise gondola for the view of the Lake and in hopes of seeing grizzly bears. We had no idea we would find the best restaurant there. They have wonderful food at very reasonable prices. Because of the view you get, we thought we would not be able to afford to dine there. We thought we would just get drinks so we could enjoy the incredible view it has. However, the food price was better then in town. We had a great fondue and the best burgers we have ever eaten anywhere, This is a place not to be missed. It is a triple treat-great food, great prices, great view. And we even saw six grizzly bears below. Don't let the price of the gondola detour you.
A beautiful hot and sunny day. A lovely ride on the chairlift up to the middle station on the mountain. Looking forward to drinks and a stunning view with lunch at this mountain restaurant. Oh dear, rather disappointed! We wanted a table on the patio and were happy to wait. The lady on the booking table explained that it was hot in the sun and for a table with an umbrella we would have to wait about 20 minutes. We said we were happy to do so. She suggested we could visit the information centre downstairs but we explained that we had already done so. I asked if we could look at the view on the patio while we waited and she looked a little displeased and said yes so long as we didn't get in the way of the serving staff! I didn't think this was a great way to treat paying customers but smiled and said that of course we would not! There was ample space on the patio for this not to be a problem. We did indeed get offered a table after about 20 minutes although when I heard our name called and approached a waitress to say we were ready, she said I would have to find the supervisor inside even though my husband was waiting on the patio where the supervisor knew we would be. I appreciate that this is world- famous Lake Louise but the whole place was a tad over pretentious for my liking.Another point I noted was that if perhaps the restaurant could invest in a few more sunshades for the tables, queues for the spaces would be reduced and it would be a win win all round. The waitress was friendly and prompt so my husband ordered a glass of white wine and since I was driving, I ordered a mocktail mojito which sounded lovely. I asked what was in this drink and the waitress explained that it was lime juice, mint and soda with ice. I asked if I could have extra mint as I loved it and she was enthusiastic in her response. When the drinks arrived I was really disappointed! There were 2 mint leaves on the edge of the glass and no mint inside the drink. I tasted it and basically it was like Sprite! I said that it wasn't quite what I expected and the waitress said 'that is how they are served in Canada'. I added that it wasn't really anything like a mojito and she said that the manager insisted they were made that way! Never mind what the customer wants I thought. I really was happy to pay more for the drink I really wanted but this didn't seem to be an option. The food was very tasty. I had the tomato and mozzarella salad and my husband had the strawberry and asparagus salad. We didn't feel valued as customers and although the chefs had done a great job with the food, we did not leave a tip.
We had lunch at the Whitehorn Bistro in Lake Louise during our Tauck Tour to the Canadian Rockies while staying at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise Hotel. One of or side trips, we took the Gondola at the Ski area and ride to the Midway point. The Whitehorn Bistro is managed by Adrian who runs a terrific Bistro with an outside Dinning Patio overlooking the Marvelous Canadian Rockies and beyond. Andrian was most helpful, friendly and has friendly staff from around the world. Sofie was our server and recommended their Specials. We shared a fabulous salad, beer
Great ride up (and down) the Gondola/Chair and walk to the Restaurant. Incredible views, the food was phenomenal and great staff. Highly recommend it. They have an information center too, full of helpful information. There is a little bit of a walk between the restaurant and the lift however it was worth every step. Appetizers were amazing. We will be back.
