On a Sunday afternoon, we decided to try out Kate's for lunch for the first time. The weather was lovely, so we opted to sit outside on the back patio, which was highlighted by a large smoker from a previous era of the location. Although the menu wasn't extensive, it offered plenty of tempting choices. Since it was Sunday, there were additional intriguing options on the brunch menu. My wife chose the simple yet delightful Rosie’s chicken salad sandwich. It was straightforward but delicious! The nine-grain bread was fresh and perfectly toasted, while the chicken salad was vibrant and flavorful. However, the highlight of the meal was the brunch shrimp and grits. The waitstaff described them as "Southwestern Style Shrimp and Grits," and that was a fitting description. The dish was spicy enough to catch your attention without being overpowering. The Gulf shrimp were large and cooked to perfection. The combination of spices, the base, cheddar grits, bacon, and other ingredients was superb. Overall, it was just as good as any shrimp and grits I've had in New Orleans. In summary, Kate's had a laid-back and friendly atmosphere, with a modest patio, but the food truly stole the spotlight. We're already looking forward to our next visit!
