Schutty's Seafood - West Bath

Maybe not on a Saturday.,,, A huge order for five to ?eat in? became an order ?to go? when we were told the wait was 40 mins. We dropped the kids, toddler and baby at home and returned 5 mins before the suggested ready to go time, only to find we had to wait another half hour! By then the smell of not so fresh cooking oil permeated the boxes. When we got the food home, the order was messed up: no 1 large and 1 small haddock, just 2 small ones that were dry, and not fresh tasting. The chowder had little of substance. No coleslaw it was part of our order but didn?t make the bag. A double instead of a single onion rings and a soggy lobster roll did, but were sad. The fries looked pale and tasted like they had been frozen and nuked. Such great reviews? What happened? I don?t know. But I won?t be back to find out. Over $180 by the way.

Fresh as can be fried seafood, a must stop near Popham Beach. I tried the scallops (a pint was more than plenty), whole belly clams, fresh onion rings, and coleslaw, all perfect. Bring a hat, as the picnic table seating is unshaded!

I have eaten here many times and it has always been delicious. The home made onion rings are fantastic and the portion is colossal. I like the Schutty's Platter with haddock, clams, shrimp, and scallops (and those onion rings). A bit pricey, but I find it feeds 3 4. Deep fried pickles make a great side. Unlike a lot of places that deep fry food, they seem to change the oil often and it is always perfectly battered.

Tried the fried haddock Reuben with chips and onion rings. The onion rings look like shoestring rings but the taste is most definitely full sized. As for calling a haddock sandwich a Reuben, they delivered to my shock and joy. Full on Reuben flavor and the homemade kettle chips were a home run to round it out. The price and limited hours are more than offset by the flavor and portions. Overall they are straight outta flavor town.

Amazing! Seafood Chowder is definitely award winning! Hand cut fries need more recognition too. Highly recommend! Been in New England my whole life with many food experiences up and down the our Coasts! This was truly the best!
