From there you probably walk another half...an hour towards Ebenalp, until you see the sign forthe Aescher. I arrived after lunchtime at about 13.30h and got a nice table within a couple of minutes, where you can overlook the whole area towards Seealpsee. The temperature was nice and warm and the team of service employees was extremely attentive and brought me a menucard immediately. I would have expected the same food as it was served previously, but it has improved so much from then and I wouldn't have expected such a nice and quick service with cold plates, but as well other warm menus at best prices, you wouldn't even expect in traditional restaurants in the valley's. Afterwards I ordered a cake with whipped cream and coffee, to be ready forthe steep downhill path towards Seealpsee. Many thanks to the new owner and the whole new service team!. I will be back soon!
New team runs this restaurant now since last year. The food is in average level, but the staffs are so friendly. And the view is incredible. I will suggest to hike from Wasserauen to Äscher, and make a stop here. Then take either cable car...down to Wasserauen.
Great view, not as good in person as in the pictures, but still a great view. Can't justify 20CHF for sausage and rosti, but it is a nice view. The miniature horses and the cave church were also cute. I wouldn't necessarily travel from the ends of the earth to see this, but if you're in the St. Gallen/ Appenzell region, it's a great way to spend a half day or so.
It was a cold - rainy day when we took the gondola up to hike to this restaurant. We almost decided not to do it because we weren't sure if we were going to be able to see anything and it was raining hard and windy. The hike is pretty easy - about 15 minutes and having this little restaurant at the end makes it very fun. I had the cheese rosti which are cheesy hash browns with fried eggs and bacon. - it was a lot of food and it was cooked perfectly for me. We were headed from Liechtenstein to Zurich so this was a little out of our way but were very glad we stopped. The views ended up being amazing even in the clouds and it was a fun journey.
Stopped here on our way down from Ebenalp to Wasserauen and enjoyed a tasty Rösti with an Appenzeller beer. Great to see how it's built into the rock. Does get busy so may need some time for a table to become available.
