However, the service was excellent. I believe that improving the menu could really elevate the dining experience here. Adding a few more options, perhaps with chicken, fish, and other meats, would be beneficial. I genuinely hope the restaurant succeeds because it's a lovely space with a great bar and fantastic views. It would also be helpful to introduce a few more innovative dishes to help it stand out, especially since it seems to be one of the nicer restaurants in Waldport.
I had a fantastic dinner accompanied by a stunning view. Service was excellent, and the meal was enjoyable. I recommend this place for dinner, with an average cost of $20–30 per person.
There was only one server on duty, and the menus we received looked like they had been printed out and handled by dirty hands. The options seemed limited to what I would consider bar food, primarily consisting of fried items. We all chose the shrimp and fish basket with fries, and my wife and I specifically requested crispy fries. After placing our order, the server unexpectedly asked us to pass our menus to the table next to us, which had just arrived. The server then mixed up the orders, and we ended up waiting an hour for our food while the people who had come in after us were served first. When our food finally arrived, it was terrible. The fries were limp, soggy, and undercooked, and one piece of my fish was inedible, as it had a bone and muscle running through the center, making it impossible to cut or bite into. To say we were embarrassed after recommending this place to our neighbors is an understatement, and all of us experienced digestive issues for several days following the meal, likely due to improper food storage or oil that hadn't been changed in a long time. This was our last visit to Waves, as it was the worst dining experience we've ever had. I've heard that Waves and its affiliated Alsi Resort are under new ownership, and it's clear they need to close Waves until they can improve. Sadly, Waves is no longer a shadow of its former self, and we won't be returning.
We should have suspected something was off when we saw that the restaurant was almost empty. We ordered the soup and salad, only to find out they were out of salad and soup spoons. The oyster crackers were stale, and the chowder was primarily just salty with a gritty texture. To top it off, the cabernet was served chilled. We definitely won’t be returning.
