Ratskeller - Trier

We sat in the large outside area where two waiters slowly served the customers. We received an unpleasant reply when politely asking for the drink menu (in German; everyone was having drinks so it wasn’t that we weren’t ordering food). Other customers were frustrated with the delay in paying. Cant speak to the quality of the food, but it cant be good enough to make up for service that makes you feel like they’re doing you a favor.

Trier was quite crowded and it was hard to find a table outside. We walked past ratskeller and saw a free space so we decided to sit down. Service was wasn't great. The personnel is quite blunt and not that attentive. It seemed like they wanted everything to take as little effort as possible and they didn't come around, for example to ask if we wanted another drink, unless you called on them. Prices are very reasonable considering the fact that the restaurant is located right at one of the main squares. The quality of the food and the preparation of the food, however, aren't great. I would recommend going elsewhere.

Complete rip off place. Prices are outrageous €4,50 for a cappuccino) and quality is from a vending machine. Don’t go there!!!!

Being located on the main big square in Triet it is hard to miss the Ratskeller. The buiding is beautiful. Service is fast and ok. Coffee was ok, though i Hate cacoa on the coffee. The cakes where average and below our expectations.

After a meal in Munich’s very noisy Klosterwirt Bierkeller a few days ago we were a bit leery about patronizing the Ratskeller, but everything turned out well. Only a few other tables were occupied, the noise level was low, and the music consisted of cool jazz and American show tunes played at a low level. The food was good though not exceptional. If you order the Ukraine-inspired Assorti appetizer, make sure that (a) you share it, or (b) you don’t order anything else. It is huge! I had the trout; my wife pork with prunes. The quantities are generous. We closed with some excellent iced cherry yoghurt. A very satisfying meal.
