The food was great, service excellent and pleasing environs, despite the fact that just as we were done,...it started to pour. A passing thunderstorm.
We visited in early July based on on-line recommendations, and when we arrived we were seated in the garden. Only 3 other tables were occupied outside. We waited for service, and we were told by a passing waiter that his colleague would come. We waited...patiently for over 20 minutes. We had been to the counter, but preferred to order a-la-carte. A table next to us was the occupied by a young couple. They also waited. As nobody assisted them either, they left, and so did we. Again, the restaurant was empty, and there were two staff. On the way out we passed the waiter who asked us to wait, but he did not even say sorry or wondered why we were leaving. My rating is purely on the fact that we were never served. The Heuriger looks lovely and is in the centre of town. A real shame.
Quant small restaurant in a very picturesque town. try the young wine. service is very friendly.
Far from the typical hot but a slow eating gourmet restaurant with (excellent) local weeping. we started with warm goat cheese on a crimped salad and thin sliced weing species or weinberg pfirsich; a simple dish, but what fireworks of subtle taste, the two kinds of chiliblunzn were...thin slices of cold blood pudding in a chili vinaigrette and a deep fried piece of the same blood sausage: cauliflower on chili; for some it may be a little local. the most important courses were an excellent spanish, roasted sucking pig, crispy and tender, accompanied by carrots with grated and a very beautiful wild boar with semmelknodel brothködeln; the sauce thick and very tasty, with fresh woodberries; perfection. then we could not resist sharing their poppy noodles (not their typical noodles, but thin potato noodles, actually) in melted butter and poppy seed. we started with a mixed set and then tried the two typical local weine pet-fandler and rotgipfler, all weine were excellent. so if they expect the typical full-fledged heuriger with uncomfortable wooden benches and the typical buffet offers from liptauer, speck, sponge roast, solitary and carving, they will be disappointed at spaetrot. if they like to be prepared in comfortable tables, in a beautiful old courtyard and how to eat lovingly by a master chef, they will love it here. let me add that the dinner for two, with more than any healthy person would eat and four glasses excellent wein and two espresso, was around €60, a true bargain in the location and quality.
