I waited in line for a long time, as wood-fired pizzas take a while and the line was loooong, only to get to the window and find out they JUST ran out of regular dough. He only had half of a pizza's worth left. I decided to try the gluten-free dough. He gave me a gluten-free for the same price as a regular AND he made me a small pizza with the rest of the regular dough. And both were DELICIOUS!
I tried the first time coming back from Bouckville Antique fest. However, he had a private party and the place was full. I understood and he did offer to make a to go order, but I live 20 miles from the restaurant and who wants cold steamed pizza. I just said Id come back another time which I did when I was shopping Seneca Wines right next door. I put my order in for the pizza and shopped for wines while waiting.I am not sure if all the pizzas are same size, but mine was the size of a tortilla shell, and with prosciutto, peppers and onions, and bottled water, the price was $37 with tax. A sticker shock for sure, but the quality of the product was excellent, and while you can smell the wood smoke, it didn't permeate and overpower the flavor of the pizza made itself. The owner took the time to explain to me how the process worked. They start the fire and a huge stone slab gets heated and the lining of the oven has brick lining. The smoke gets vented outside the building, but the heat is very intense so the pizza chef has to keep constant attention or it will burn to charcoal in less than 3 minutes!! The flavor is very different from gas pizzeria ovens, so don't expect the pizza to be similar taste as the smoke adds the unique hardwood flavor. I am 100% Italian and know the flavors of fine Italian dining, casual/ pizzeria food, and of course authentic Italian home cooking! I would classify the food as gourmet pizza, and the restaurant as upscale rustic/ casual. I recommend you try as the choice of toppings is setup like making a Subway sub. Kind of fun to see your pizza assembled and baked before your eyes!!
Pizza was very good only one complaint I wish the pizza was a little bigger you have to buy two to get full but hey it’s was very good
My partner and I have been eating here for lunch regularly since she got her job in New Hartford. The specials are always worth trying, these folks constantly push the envelope, and the risk is your reward. They also boast six taps of beer and cider that rotate constantly, so, there's always something fun to pair your pizza with! Besides the ever changing specials menu, their faithful (and large! selection of classic pizzas will keep you coming back. I'm currently ordering the menu one by one, from top to bottom so I can say I've had everything on it! Vegetarian options: They even have Vegan options!
Everything about this place is amazing. The pizza is delicious! Very fresh and flavorful while not heavy. The owner and staff are great. Super fast. Highly recommended.
