Front staff was accomodating and chipper! Now as for the famous "Voyageur" Restaurant located in Cedar Meadows was definitely a different story. Wait staff was awesome, greeted us at the door, walked in and the place was dead (I suppose that's expected for a Monday night!). There was only 2 other tables in there, an 8 who were already eating and another table of 2 who were sitting next to us. The atmosphere is warm and elegant, our waitress was very professional and answered all of our questions regarding the special (which was a Ribeye steak with deep fried onions of some sort for 36$) I'm a huge fan of steak so I definitely got that and my girlfriend picked the stuffed chicken. We started our appetizer with stuffed portebelo mushrooms and we waited 45 minutes for it but was worth the wait because they were super delicious! As for our main courses on the other hand, it took well over an hour for us to receive our food which I didnt understand why it took so long because we were 1 of 2 tables in there entire restaurant. I ordered my Ribeye Med-Rare, half of which was cold and almost blue, just pushing rare and the other half of my steak was chared and overdone. I ate the half that was cooked because the rare side was just too blue for me. My mashed were bland and clumpy, and the deepfried onions were burnt, greasy and absolutely inedible. I told the waitress of my steak and she was very accomodating about having it re-fired but I had eaten most of it. Best part of my meal were the veggies unfortunetely. My girlfriend was happy with her stuffed potatoes and veggies but not so much the chicken as the mushrooms that were pureed inside were bland and looked like cat food lol I wish I were exagerating. Anyhow, we enjoyed our experience for the most part, our waitress was great and the restaurant itself was a great experience but for the price they charge their customers I was expecting...more. I wish I could recommend this place to people as I am a restauranteur but I'd say skip this place next time you're looking for a good meal. It's overpriced and overated. I will upload pictures of our meals also to show everyone. 3/5 for Cedar Meadows but if the food was as great as their prices I'd give them a higher score!
Starting at $69 plate, I was hoping for better from a chef. My shrimp appetizer was ok. My beef tenderloin (bacon wrapped filet Mignon) was cold and under cooked. I asked for med rare, center of it was blue rare and cold. Desert was good. (I don't ever sent food back to the kitchen and for that price in Timmins I shouldn't have to)My wife picked the vegan options, gnocchi was deep fried and thrown on a plate - no sauce just the potatoes rolling around on a plate. Risotto was a clump rice with mushrooms, over cooked and poorly presented. My wife ate about 1/2 of it. her desert was good but that's not much food for $69. In the end I don't mind taking extra time to "dine" but 3 hours and 10 minutes for this was way too long. Quality of the food was was not something I would expect for a chef on New Years Eve Special.I doubt I will return.
Every time we come to Timmins we make sure to come here for a meal. Today we were celebrating my Mom's 90th birthday. The food is always done perfectly! We had steak, salmon, chicken, coquilles St. Jacques and pasta. Each dish was wonderful. The service is great and you can actually carry on a conversation. This place has the best ambience in town.
My wife and I were here on a date night and really enjoyed both the service and food! We were there on the weekend so got to order the prime rib which was great. We also had the ribs which had a great new bbq sauce.
Recently went back to Cedar Meadows after having been away for awhile. It has had some consistency issues in the kitchen. Had a great dinner last night with a group. Apart from a piece of salmon which was not cooked to a guests liking (she did not specify she wanted it well done), everyone seemed to enjoy their dishes. They allowed substitutions on the menu to suit every need. Chef came out and apologized for the salmon and comped a dessert. My sirloin was cooked perfectly and served with a well seasoned madeira sauce. Will return.
