I have been to the Flight Deck Restaurant/Johnston Little Food Services/Airport Café (whatever you want to call it – I think the place suffers from a bit of an identity crisis. “Flight Deck Restaurant” appears on your receipt; “Johnston Little Food Services” is printed on the menu; and “Airport Café” is painted on the wall, but I digress. . .) a number of times. Personally, I find the café fine for what it is: an establishment designed for a quick meal before your flight. It is the only dining option in Terrace Airport, so if you want something more than sandwiches, soups, burgers or poutine, I’d suggest eating before you arrive. That said, I think the place is kind of cute: the menu is simple and the food generally well executed. The sandwiches and soup are nothing special, but I do like the seemingly quirky specials on offer from time to time: the crispy chicken poutine and jumbo hot dog stand out in that regard.(In fact, when I saw that the evening special was a “Jumbo Hot Dog” one day, I couldn’t help myself; I just HAD to get it! There was just something about seeing a hot dog listed as a “special” that I couldn’t resist. And it was really good, too, by the way. I’m just sad I haven’t seen it since!)Being the only eatery in YXT, the place does get busy as people come in for their flights. Because there’s usually only a staff of 3 (sometimes 4,) it’s a good idea to get to the airport early to place your order – if you intend to eat – otherwise you might have a bit of a wait and end up having to “rush” your meal or get it to go. Now, this has never happened to me (I always get to the airport a bit early,) but I have seen others in this situation. Generally, I’ve had absolutely no issues with the food – it’s always been good; however, my partner did have an issue with a fruit pie a couple of weeks ago. When the matter was brought to the attention of staff, they very quickly took ownership and corrected the issue to our satisfaction – a mark of good customer service. In short, if you want a quick bite to eat at YXT, the on-site café is a good place to go. The space, while simple, is clean and the staff courteous. FOOD: 3.5/5SERVICE: 3.5/5VALUE: 3/5RECOMMENDATION: Two thumbs up!
Service is underwhelming. 3 Underworked Employees, who move like Turtles. I should have had time to catch a meal before my flight, buy I had to scarf down my meal to make it on time. What was really pathetic, is that every table had dirty dishes on it. They do not care and it shows.Only at a small airport can a crew like this stay in business. My food was good, as was the price, but how hard is it to make a Grilled Cheese Sandwich.
We have only had the French fries here because they are such good fries that we get them everytime we are at the airport.
This is the only place to eat at the Kitimat/Terrace airport and it used to be great, the food is still good but I was a little disappointed by the staff. I wanted breakfast before my flight, but missed the cut off by 5 minutes, they wouldn't do it. No one else wanted breakfast so it wouldn't have been much trouble, but no. The staff used to be very acommadating and for an airport place the prices were good. The food is still good but not the same service.
