My husband and I dined at La Tapa Guapa Spanish Restaurant in the Sir John Young Hotel in Sydney tonight. We had visited several years ago, but this time it didn't quite meet our expectations. The tapas was excellent, and the margarita was enjoyable, but it was disappointing that the bread consisted of standard oven-baked rolls from the store. The service was quick and attentive, even though the atmosphere was a bit noisy. Overall, it's affordable dining.
We visited the restaurant on Saturday night around 6:45 PM, just as it was starting to fill up. We’ve dined here many times before and have always enjoyed a great meal. We ordered chicharrones and an omelette as tapas, followed by seafood paella for our main course, along with a jug of sangria. All three dishes were expertly prepared and came in generous portions. The service was quick and attentive. While this restaurant may not be a five-star establishment, the food is hearty and a great value for the price. If you're in the mood for this kind of cuisine, this is definitely the place to go.
By the power of suggestion we stopped after seeing a gentleman outside with a jug of sangria. We went through the door and were greeted cheerfully by the bar person. She made the sangria and we had a good chat. Loved sitting out side enjoying watching the people while sipping through our jug.
Woolies dinner rolls for bread, that should say it all. Chorizo not authentic, gambas not in olive oil, Russian salad had seafood substitute. I guess that's what happens when you don't have a clue or Spanish or Portuguese cooks. Do yourself a favour and head a few doors down to captain Torres, authentic.
