This place is a local favorite, and many people seem to love calling ahead for takeout. The seating is only available outside, and there wasn't a menu posted in the window, so we had to ask for one as soon as we reached the front of the line. While the atmosphere felt a bit understated, our food arrived in a reasonable amount of time. When I tried to take a photo of the menu for my next visit, an employee kindly gave me permission, but another staff member informed me I shouldn’t be inside, reminding me to only take pictures from outside. Despite that, it was worth it! The prices are very reasonable, especially considering the size of the portions, and it’s great to support local businesses. I recommend checking their menu online and ordering in advance to minimize contact with the well-meaning but understandably stressed staff. And don't be alarmed if you see a small black dog wandering around; it belongs to the owners!
I placed my order at the window and then relaxed on a picnic bench under the apple trees while waiting for my food. It was a lovely spot for lunch on a hot day. The fries were tasty, but they could have been cooked a bit longer in the fryer. They were crispy on the outside and had a bit of potato skin still on them, which added to the flavor. I tried the Stained Eulenburger, Cedar Shack's famous giant burger named after a notorious issue in Oregon's wood industry. It was delightful! Their special sauce is fantastic, with a perfect blend of mayo and ketchup. The burger comes topped with decent vegetables. While they use sweet pickles, which I’m not particularly fond of, they complement the other sweet and fresh elements of the burger nicely. The meat is cooked on a flat top with just a hint of seasoning, allowing you to appreciate its flavor, whether you prefer the taste of the grill or the natural flavor of well-prepared beef. Cedar Shack is definitely worth a stop if you’re in the Sweet Home area along Highway 20. It embodies the quintessential small-town burger joint vibe that you can find throughout Oregon.
On Saturday evening, the diner was empty, but the service was friendly, and I appreciated the peaceful atmosphere without any television. The Irish nachos were loaded with cheese and paprika, somewhat resembling tattoos, while the pizzaburger was essentially a burger topped with pizza ingredients. Although I wouldn’t call it gourmet cuisine, the food was definitely worth the price, with dishes ranging from $6 to $7 that were both edible and often delicious. The bathroom was immaculate, which I greatly appreciated after passing through a few sketchy areas on my way. I’m glad we chose this place to eat; it was satisfying enough to enjoy without breaking the bank.
