Upon recommendation of the proprietress I tried this place. Viola! Rabbit kidneys in a succulent sauce. Great and reasonably priced wine list. Can choose from their wine rack. Treated a lone American like royalty. Not “fancy”, just darn good (like most places in France).
Menu is somewhat limited and traditional French cuisine escargots, bourguignon, etc). The specials show the chef's ability and are your best bets in my opinion. Vegetables were french and a bit crunchy as they should be. Limited wine list. Great efficient service.
This was my first visit to this restaurant and it was full on a Tuesday lunchtime so they are surely doing something right. The cold soup was absolutely first-rate. Being fond of kidney I ordered the rabbit kidney and was shocked at the poor quality. I had been told that the founder/chef is French and looking back I should have sent the dish back as is the custom in France. Now looking over other reviews I can best quote what loan of Montreal wrote last December: We purposely come back for the rabit kidney with porto sauce cause i still remember last time i wiped the whole dish with bread and my aunt s dish too , the sauce was so good , creamy , smooth , buttery ,such a disapointment this time ! The kidney was overcook , it taste pasty not firm , and the sauce was too thin , and it seems that it was not skimmed off the impurities so it was not creamy and smooth and i cant taste the buttery in my mouth . The vegetables were well cooked but the plate looked as if thrown together haphazardly. The house red wine was excellent.
It had been recommended for our visit to the Christmas market and did not disappoint. Would return in a heart beat. Service top notch. Price the most reasonable meal dining out in a long time.
We had such a great lunch last year so we decided to visit the Christmas Market this year and return to Auberge A La Fontaine to have lunch again The onion soupe is still very good with flavorful aroma and chewy cheese and is hot . The soupe of the day is very creamy Zukini and Tomatoe We purposely come back for the rabit kidney with porto sauce cause i still remember last time i wiped the whole dish with bread and my aunt s dish too , the sauce was so good , creamy , smooth , buttery ,such a disapointment this time ! The kidney was overcook , it taste pasty not firm , and the sauce was too thin , and it seems that it was not skimmed off the impurities so it was not creamy and smooth and i cant taste the buttery in my mouth . My husband s steak was medium well done , he ordered medium rare and it was not seasoning at all , not even a small throwing of salt and the sause suffered the same fate as my rabbit kidney s dish The service remain very good though , if they bother to ask us how was the meal , i can tell them so the kitchen can pay a little more attention to the sauce cause French cuisine is famous for their sauces !
