Otherwise, steam it again when you want to have one to go. Alternative: wet a paper towel, wrap it on the bao then microwave for 45seconds<br/ • Baked buns: are actually great in the next ... up to 2 days as is, microwave it and its good!<br/ • Glutinous rice balls with red bean: one of my fave! I can have this anytime! Soft, chewy, nicely flavours<br/
New Town Bakery has been a constant stop for me. I love there steamed buns, especially their BBQ pork, and their prawn turnovers are sooo yummy! At good prices it's a nice place to grab a quick bite to eat. I just wish they allowed card use XD
New town. So it a chinese bakery, or a filipino bakery? and or restaurant? not quite sure...<br/ never tried the restaurant part of this place. but i do like a couple of items from their bakery menu: pork vegetable steamed buns and the prawn turnovers. tastes more like large dim sum to me than bakery items tho?? the steamed buns are always fresh but the deep fried prawn turnovers are so hit and miss. sometimes they have been sitting around for a while and they are rock hard/hurt your teeth kind of old and other times, they are soft and delicious. we have promised ourselves to never get the turnovers again if it's later on in the day.<br/ asado (bbq pork buns) seem to be really popular here, but i find them too sweet for my liking and i don't like the random chunks of pork fat/skin in them either.<br/ don't like anything else i have tried so far. egg tarts are ok but the pork turnovers are really greasy and their red bean paste is nasty. <br/ service is nasty as well but the pork and vegetable buns are so yummy and cheap that i put up with it =P<br/ <br/ update: a relative bought a box of mixed steamed buns so i got to try a bit of a few different kinds. veggie and red bean had a pathetic portion of filling (like really pathetic), meat buns had very healthy portions of filling but the beef bun was raw in the center (posted a picture). thank god we were cutting the buns up beforehand to share so none of us ate or got sick from this. beware!!
New Town is popular for their siopao or “steamed buns.” The siopao was tasty and filling. The dough was soft; the filling inside was very flavourful. This is good to eat for a snack or if you want something light for dinner. It’s also easy to take with you for lunch. Just wrap it in a moist paper towel, throw it in the microwave for a minute, and you’re good to go!
Best Siu Paos in town! Great fun cafe spot with must-have steamed buns and wonderfully loving staff! I would recommend the coconut buns and sticky rice for a cold day! Watch out though, the caramel-y pork buns are addictive!
