Food was okay, but the service was excellent. We sat outside, and our server, Abbey, was very attentive, polite friendly. We ordered the potato skins with bacon green onions for starters (a special of the day), and it was very tasty. My teenager ordered the D D Signature Burger with fries, and enjoyed his meal. My husband and I shared a cup of gumbo (the special soup of the day) and the Fish Chips. The gumbo was very good flavorful and hearty with lots of chicken sausage. The fish chips, however, was a huge disappointment. I couldn't pick it up with either my fingers or my fork because it immediately fell apart. The texture of the fish was all wrong. It looked like it was frozen, defrosted, then refrozen before finally being deep fried and served. The fries were very good though. Hoping this was just an off day, so maybe we'll try again another time because we like the variety on the menu.
Here's my thoughts... Just three stars. ???. But with the understanding that we probably would return, the food and service could stand to be a little better. We had a party of six and visited in Sunday October 10. We impressively were greeted by all the bar staff as soon as we entered. Very friendly, told to seat ourselves, very warm and friendly. The waitress was also very friendly, but the service was a tad slow. Drinks needed refills, seemed it took forever from the time our drinks came, to the time she eventually took our order. We ordered appetizers. The nachos and the German JoJo's. The cheese dip on the nachos was over the top good. And those German JoJo's were amazing! What you would expect from a restaurant that clearly gets most of their business from the bar. Everyone that had the German JoJo's raved about them. Very impressive. We each ordered something different for our meals. My son ordered a French dip sandwich and loved it. My son-in-law got the PB&J burger. He thought it was an incredible combination of flavors. I tried it, and not a peanut butter fan; but the burger was really good and the jalapeno jelly really added a unique twist to the beef. Impressive. I ordered their what I think was a Cajun onion soup. A remarkable soup, warmed with what I assume was chili powder; and ultimately one of the best soups I've had in quite some time. I wish however, they cut the onions down to fit the smaller soup spoons the served it with... The not so good. I ordered the fried chicken and biscuits. It was covered with a white pepper gravy. The chicken was way too salty, and I found myself having to take a sip of my drink with every bite. Mind you (even though I didn't), I usually salt my food before I eat it. Thank God I didn't this time. My lips dried up more with each bite. I'm assuming they let the chicken soak in salt water before frying, and they way over did it. And being from the south, don't be stingy on the gravy! Two pieces of chicken in two biscuits. Maybe a 1/4 cup in gravy on them both. Triple that! Perhaps the extra gravy would have overrode the string salt taste, but I'll never know. My wife was disappointed in her Philly cheese steak. She said after one bite the flavor of the added pepper was overwhelming. Here's my thoughts on the negativity. This place was good and friendly. But they're primarily a bar. If we had been there later in the evening and drinking heavily, the stronger seasonings would probably suit most patrons that are more intoxicated. I really look forward to my next trip to Summerville and hopefully revisit this restaurant. The majority of the food was great, but two meals out of six were disappointing. Normally that's enough to make me not want to return, but what we did like, we loved. We just have to be more selective and ask more questions. Do I recommend Dog and Duck? Yes. I hope to return in a few weeks to visit my daughter and her husband and tr
I've been here a few times and never had an amazing time. It's a very fine bar and barbecue, but it's nothing but that. The service is usually quite slow and the food is okay, sometimes good. If you just want to look for a burger and drink, try it. If you want a great meal, try another restaurant.
So my fiancé and I went to Dog and Duck last night. I 've never been and wanted to try it out. Now, as soon as I went in he went to take a seat and I went to the restroom. When I came back, I saw our drinks on the table but I can visibly see that he was annoyed and asked him what was wrong and he told me nothing. The whole vibe from the young serving staff just felt off and made me feel uncomfortable. They kept looking over at us and rolling their eyes and glaring. I just thought they were tired and overworked (both of us were servers for 5 years). We did not run the server around and only asked for an extra cup of sauce and one alcoholic beverage.Once we got our bill and I saw how much he left her for a tip I asked him why since we normally leave way more. That 's when he explained to me that when I was in the restroom, 4 servers looked over at him and said I don 't want that table including the young woman who served us. And honestly, if I had known before hand, I would have made sure we left and I don 't think I will ever go back there.
