On the recommendation of the waitress, I tried a G T mixed with strawberry bitters and peppercorn, and she was spot on. It had the fruity notes from the gin and strawberry, the slight bitterness from the tonic and the kick from the spice.<br/ <br/ For food, my partner and I had the salt beef sandwich and a steak. The salt beef sandwich was absolutely delicious. The bread was soft yet crusty, and the beef was tender and robust. The tangy and sour dill pickles round up the flavour nicely. The scotch fillet, on the other hand, was rather ordinary, but this by no means indicates that it was not good.<br/ <br/ The service was faultless throughout, and we very much enjoy a leisurely lunch before we venture further into Prahran Market.
We came to Wilson Market for cocktails and beer but ended up with entertainment thrown in for free for as we sat inside in the bar area we could see the area outside reserved for a hens event that was going fill swing complete with a belly dancers, tears and drama... all good fun on a Saturday evening. <br/ <br/ Inside the venue was a peaceful oasis of calm in comparison. Slender sleek styling with risqué artwork. I just loved the female Ned Kelly image. The cocktail list was one of the more unique lists we had seen and Kellie choose the Lemon Three Ways which certainly pack a tartiness. I opted for the a suitable obscure beer enjoying the midstrength Sunshine Rainbows Sour Saison beer from Boatrocker Brewery. I’m becoming a fan of sours which will no doubt be all the rage this summer. This one was very citrusy and was very easy drinking so could become my session ale of choice. <br/ <br/ We were wowed by the look of the food with the oysters looking amazing. Shall have to expand this review one day soon to include some tasty menu items.
Attended a beautiful dinner here in anticipation for Prahran Market's annual cheese festival. Each cheesy dish was better than the next. While these dishes may not be available on the standard menu, they showcase the thought, care and innovation that the chef maintains in all he creates, and that's sure to be exemplified no matter what you order. Also note that the large venue is great for groups and semi-private functions.
The talented team at Wilson Market delighted and pleased with every course. Think Asparagus vol au vent served with Gentle Goat cheese, hazelnuts and béarnaise, Pork Belly with Yering Camembert, courgette and smoked sauce and our personal favourite – Red Mullet with Bulls Eye persilliade, peas and broad beans and to finish, a thoroughly modern and enticing dessert of Fromage Frais, honey, rose and rye.
On a random Tuesday we decided to pop into Wilson Market for a lunch date and shared every dish as we like to do. <br/ First came the Charred Hiramasa Kingfish with lemon threeways- lemon foam and two types of lemon curd (the whiter one being the lemon pith which I absolutely loved! sesame and sea vegetables. I’ve never had sea vegetables before and it was interesting. Some of them tasted like a cross between grapes and cavier. <br/ <br/ Secondly we had miso cured ocean trout tarator, apple chilli jam, aromatic broth which was really delicious but the broth was luke warm and it always weirds me out to have anything a bit luke warm with seafood instead of piping hot or cold. I would like to see steam coming out of the jar as they pour but perhaps this is not how it’s served (and also just a personal preference of mine . <br/ <br/ <br/ Kangaroo Tartare, creme fraiche, radish. It’s been a long time since I’ve had tartare with my aim to reduce my meat intake but when my partner said it was amazing I couldn’t resist trying it. I was worried the kangaroo might be a bit strong in flavour but it was really beautifully presented, the meat was tender and perfectly seasoned served with crispy radish and baguette slices and creme fraiche finished it all nicely. I loved the variety of textures and flavours. Meat dishes are hard to win me over but this was spectacular and a 5. <br/ <br/ Thrice cooked chips with aioli didn’t really taste thrice cooked as I wanted a brilliant crunch but that only happened with some. <br/ <br/ We shared the salt baked celeriac, kale, Caramelised buttermilk and seeds. I was hoping this dish would blow me away but lacked a bit of flavour compared to the entrees. A good amount of crispy kale and seeds and the celeriac was cooked ok but overall tasted a bit plain to me. <br/ <br/ The service was great and I loved that it was quiet for lunch. My partner loved it and we would probably come back and just try a different main. <br/
