Thank goodness that it's baseball season because it is happy hour whenever there is a Padres game and M-F, 4-6pm. At 60 cents a wing, it's a steal. The wings are huge. They are larger than other places I've been. They have a variety of flavors, but I stick to the mild buffalo sauce. I know, I'm weak. I also ordered zucchini sticks. I prefer those over mozzarella sticks because you just get more. Ten wings and an order of zucchini sticks later, I am stuffed and very happy. They are famous for their half pound steerburgers which a lot of people do get. On Wednesdays, they're $5.49. I used to order their burgers, but the bottom bun always got soggy and I hate soggy bread. Needless to say, I don't order the burgers here. The beer selection is pretty good. They have their usual, but change their selection enough that if you want to try something new, you can. Every time I've gone, the service has been great. Tiffany is really good. I try to sit at one of her tables whenever I can. I noticed Kelli didn't have a good experience with her. Tiffany might have been having an off day that day. I guess I've just been fortunate to have attentative servers, even when it isn't Tiffany. Parking can sometimes be a pain, but the 60 cents wings are worth circling the parking lot. The tables are clean when I've been there and if there are tables that need to bussed, they don't sit dirty too long.
I stopped in for a burger and learned right away that on Wednesdays you can get a regular 1/2 pound steer burger for $2.99 all day! Yes, $2.99! [hidden link] I went ahead and ordered it and added some fresh sliced avocado for $1.50 more. [hidden link] I also ordered a side garden salad and I had an iced tea. My side salad came first and it was very simple but good. [hidden link] It came with your typical ingredients including croutons and I had it with their mild vinaigrette and it was descent. The Steer burger was good and came on a warm and moist sesame bun. [hidden link] I added pickles and onions that come in their little plastic containers and they were fresh. [hidden link] The meat was cooked to medium the way I asked and it had a good flavor. [hidden link] The avocados were fresh and ripe. Overall, a good burger but for only $2.99, it is a very good burger. The food to me was definitely a 3 star event, but getting a burger for only $2.99 that has to count for something. So, Bam! 4 stars for that.
My Father in law took me here for lunch today. They have a Wednesday Special which is a 1/2lb Steerburger for $3.99. We both got that (I got mine with American cheese), some fries and a Pepsi. Burger was tasty. Seemed a little light for 1/2lb though in the sense that I mowed through it rather fast and wasn 't really full . Fries were cooked perfect...extra crispy and good. Pepsi was Pepsi. Service was great! Our waitress was really friendly. Price=? My father in law paid for our meal. Probably somewhere around $20 or so. Not too shabby. I probably won 't ever crave this place, but if someone wanted to come, I would join them because the burgers are pretty tasty. They even have an AYCE 1/3lb burgers and fries for $9.99 with the purchase of a beverage on one night (forgot what day the sign said...think it was Fridays). Not too shabby.
Gluten free options at a boll weevil? Cool! My wife has special dietary considerations due to health and this boll weevil was able to accommodate them which is a big plus. She knows I live the boll weevil in IB, and loved it as a kid, so we drive out here to check it out. The gluten free fries were great, but she got her burger wrapped in lettuce, so we can't comment on the gf buns. I had a regular bacon burger and fries, and it was pretty good. The patty isn't quite as good as the patty they use at the IB location. Otherwise it was very similar. The service was adequate; I had noticed a lot of other reviews complained about the service. I wouldn't have commented on this, except it seemed that our waitress was the only one working, but she seemed to do a pretty good job of being the only one there working. They had a lot of beer, a pretty decent selection for east county. They had a mural outside of their bathroom with the logos of local brewery's, but I forgot to snap a photo. The location itself was decent, but looked like it could use a little tlc. Overall I think many of the reviews have been too harsh, it seems like a good little joint.
I went here last week to eat and really enjoyed my food. The last time I went to boll weevil was in lemon grove at the one with the old logo. And I was disappointed I remember going to boll weevil as a kid and it was good, but my last experience let me down. I decided to try out the one in santee with the different logo. I was impressed by their selection of beers and liked the little patio area they had. I ordered the grilled cheese burger, it looked amazing and tasted even better. I love grilled cheese, so why not eat it in a burger from. I will define they be back to try another burger.... On a side note if you feel like gambling with the claw machine, the claw is an jerk
