We started with a delightful peach gazpacho paired with tomato and goat cheese crème fraîche, and the tuna tartare was also quite good. For the main courses, we enjoyed the roasted chicken with cherries, celery, and grapes in a wonderfully tender sauce. The three large scallops were perfectly seared and accompanied by tomatoes and other vegetables. We had just enough space for dessert, opting for the chocolate opera cake and lemon buttermilk cake, both served in perfect portions. The service was excellent!
When he finally reappeared from the storage area (which I could see from my seat), he was surprised to find that the cod had gone untouched. We explained that it wasn't right and didn’t want them to assume we were trying to avoid payment, so we offered to pay for everything. However, he didn’t provide a clear response. When he returned, he mentioned, "They made me take the fish off," which didn’t feel like a professional way to address the issue. A visit from the general manager would have been appreciated. We decided to skip dessert and left after dining for less than an hour. We were very disappointed and won’t be returning to The Compound in the future. Additionally, the silverware was tarnished and mismatched, which shows a lack of attention to detail; if they're overlooking that, who knows what else is being missed? I understand it’s challenging to find good help, but it's essential to train staff properly, and our waiter definitely needed better supervision. Historically, we've spent a lot of time and money here and had thoroughly enjoyed our experiences. I also felt sorry for the young lady who was assisting the waiter; she was very kind and seemed to be trying her best.
This was truly one of the best meals I've ever experienced. The quality and freshness of the food were outstanding. I'm fairly certain I exclaimed "wow" after each bite. I ordered the Organic Chicken Breast, Grilled Apricot Gazpacho, and California Cherry Tart. It was worth every penny! Kudos to the entire staff at The Compound. If you're planning to dine here, I recommend budgeting at least two hours to fully enjoy the experience. I can't wait to return the next time I'm in Santa Fe!
Justifiably famous. The charming interior designed by Alexander Girard (the angled booth seating is unique and comfortable), the charming staff... And the superb food! Came here for lunch. First comes the fresh bread and butter--yum! Next, the onion ringtower (lightly battered, almost like tempura). I had the house-made pastrami sandwich--toothsome, tender, with Beer-BraisedSweet Onions Horseradish-Mustard Mayonnaise, house made chips and coke slaw. My friend had the wedge salad with Bleu cheese andbacon. Dessert was heavenly Molton chocolate cake with blood orange sorbet. The staff is so nice, they don't rush you. Thisis a very special place for a memorable meal! TIP: Reservations are a must but easily done online through Google or OpenTable
Excellent food and service. The oysters on the half shell were great, the freshest I've had in New Mexico. The fresh squeezed lime Mezcal cocktail was the perfect accompaniment. Wine selection was also unequaled to anything I've seen since moving from the west coast. Scallops and grits and the pork tenderloin were excellent as was the apple caramel cheesecake dessert. Will be savoring this meal for a long time to come.
