Shogun Japanese - Santa Cruz

They have a list of ten veggie friendly rolls that are very decently priced. I ordered their Signature Vegetable Roll $10) which came in four pieces filled with nori, sweet tofu, cucumber, carrots, avocado, and other delectable healthy fats. The ingredients were fresh and really held its own compared to other veggie rolls at other restaurants i.e. the basic cucumber roll). Their vegetable tempura was also happily vegan friendly as they do not use egg in their batter. If you are okay with fried, crispy goodness, the tempura is something that also gets my seal of approval. Service dining inside was great even during their busy evening hours. Sitting at the bar also meant we got our sushi rolls quicker so I'm convinced Shogun will continue to rein as one of the best sushi spots in Santa Cruz.

Miso soup was great, not too salty. Shogun Poppers were excellent, Jalapeño with salmon, spicy Mayo, Sriracha and cream cheese. Donkatsu was also good with huge quantities.

Friendly service and decent roles. Udon, too. Large dinning hall, clean bathroom, great location.

Favorite sushi in Santa Cruz county. Fresh, tasty and a great dining experience. The Spicy tuna hand roll is something special its my favorite I’ve had anywhere and the Sunomono is also unrivaled. The downtowner, the leftover and the spicy ruby roll are all favs. It’s all good.

Enjoyed a great dinner at this fine establishment. Very kind staff and great food. Had 2 apps and a roll. Very fresh fish and great presentation. Check this place out when you’re craving sushi and are cruising h downtown.
