Roy's Station Coffee Tea - San Jose

I visited Roy's while in the area and had a great experience. I tried their dirty chai latte, and it was fantastic. I also ordered the spinach and chard pastry, which was tasty. The mocha was decent but not my favorite. Despite the long line, the service was impressively fast. Just a heads up: they don’t allow dogs inside, so if you have a pet, you'll need to sit outside. Overall, it’s a nice spot for a quick breakfast and coffee.

Roy’s Station Coffee Tea is a delightful local coffee shop situated in Japan Town. The staff are friendly, and the decor is a creative mix of gas station, train, and urban memorabilia, adding a quirky touch to the atmosphere. The outdoor patio is a lovely spot to enjoy coffee, tea, or a light snack, especially on nice days. I particularly love their vegan, nut-free, and gluten-free brownies paired with an iced coffee. The selection of teas and coffees is impressive, and they also offer smoothies and juices from a cold box (though there isn't a juice bar). You can purchase Verve coffee beans, as well as store-branded sweatshirts, mugs, and framed photographs from local artists. It's definitely worth a visit!

I've had two concerning experiences here involving food allergies that highlight a lack of attention from staff. I live nearby and generally enjoy this place, but both times I've ordered items substituting oat milk for regular milk, I ended up with regular milk instead. The first incident was resolved quickly when I caught the mistake right away, and they remade my drink with oat milk. However, the second time I unfortunately didn’t notice until it was too late. My partner discovered that the item contained milk, which led to a painful and distressing day due to the allergy. Milk allergies are serious; exposure can cause severe and potentially life-threatening reactions. Reflecting on both incidents, I realize I should have been more vigilant, especially given the staff's demeanor. On both occasions, there were only three employees working during the day. On the second visit, there was just one other customer, yet the staff seemed more preoccupied with their own conversations than with taking orders attentively. While I have no issue with staff chatting, when it compromises customer health, it becomes a critical concern. I urge the team at Roy’s Station Coffee Tea to be more diligent when taking orders, especially regarding modifications. It would help to ensure that these changes are noted clearly on tickets to prevent such mistakes in the future. Please, consider the health implications for those of us with serious food allergies. We need your help to avoid the distressing consequences of these errors.

Friendly service and quality coffee. I believe they use verve coffee. The Carmelita is my favorite…hot or iced!!

Such a neat little coffee spot with a very retro-meets-modern energy. after a few years of following pandemic guidelines, the shop recently re-opened at full capacity, including their inside ordering area. there isn’t a ton of seating at the venue (i’d guess 15-20 tables max? but i’ve never had a problem finding a spot. coffee is great, and the handful of food options they have are pretty tasty too. worth a visit if you’re around!
