Ee Nami Tonkatsu Izakaya - San Diego

This restaurant offers excellent quality tonkatsu! It’s my top pick for tonkatsu in the USA! I’m definitely looking forward to returning to my hometown, San Diego.

The tonkatsu was good, but it wasn't as juicy or tender as what I had in Okinawa. It was sliced thicker than the usual tonkatsu, but it still had a pleasant crispy exterior. The cauliflower was tasty, as were the pickled vegetables. The miso soup was very delicious, with a pronounced fish flavor. I highly recommend making a reservation in advance if you have a party larger than two. We arrived right when they opened and were lucky to get a table, but everyone else had already reserved.

We ordered the Katsu-Don, some beer, two sushi rolls, and an art suppenreis. Overall, it was just fine. The Katsu-Don was not as impressive as others I've had before; I wished the rice had more flavor or seasoning, but it was rather plain. The beer was poorly poured, resulting in too much foam. Everything else was acceptable, but nothing spectacular. Overall, I wouldn’t mind returning, but this experience wasn't memorable for me, and the meal was just average.

Great place the staff is very polite and friendly. The outdoor seating is very cute and they even have heaters so you won’t get cold. The food was soo good I can’t wait to come back. Definitely order a lot and try it all !

11 10. Will comeback. Insanely good pork loin. Imported panko from Japan . Ordered the Katsu Curry. Absolutely phenomenal. Nice indoor and outdoor seating, great service. Portions are great. Just amazing all around.
