Atypical Waffle Company - San Diego

The speakeasy vibe of this place is a big part of the allure here. The menu is pretty limited (not many vegetarian options) but the waffles are tasty. Their whipped butter is incredible, but other than that it just doesn’t have that wow factor.Food: 3/5

Had a great time with friends at this spot. Waffles are great and the Drewski's Lemonade is dope! Got myself a couple of bottles and I can go refill them at discount to take home. Very fun place to look around at while you eat too!Wheelchair accessibility: No stairs in sight.

This place used to be so good!! The waffles used to be thick and filling, deliciously topped with fantastic ingredients. The venue used to have an incredible cool kitschy vibe that was always a delight to spend time in. The staff was always fantastic (though I don 't have any complaints about the staff, they were still great). It feels like this place is converting from 'Atypical Waffle Company ' into 'Typical Waffles ' and I don 't like it.I recently moved away and finally made my way back for the first time in about year. When I got there, half the menu was blocked out with blue painters tape as I 'm assuming they just ran out of a lot of ingredients. I ordered what used to be my go to of the number seven and what used to be called the fresh light. When I got it, what used to be an incredibly filling and tasty waffle was just a tiny thing that felt more like a generic waffle from wherever as opposed to the delicious liege waffles that used to be served here, and 'the number seven ' which used to come with delicious thick candied bacon pieces instead had just strips of generic skinny bacon which didn 't really work with the overall flavor of the dish.Added to that it looks like they 're trying to get rid of more of the unique kitschy vibe and turn it into just tables in an alley instead of what it used to be. The more cool unique seating arrangements were removed to make way for generic tables, and the serving trays with the cool Atypical serving paper has gone away in favor of just plates. In addition they bumped up the price of everything by like 50%, which I wouldn 't have minded if they didn 't also reduce the size and the quality by 50% as well.

Service was great, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was fun. I wish the portions were a bigger because I was left wanting moreFood: 4/5

Very nice and fresh Belgium waffle, it's crispy and fluffy inside. Cold brew was also excellent!! Love the ambience of this little cafe, very chill.Food: 5/5
