We ate at Wokman a couple of times while staying in Salzburg. The food was lovely and fresh and the staff very welcoming and efficient. They catered well for vegans too. The restaurant is in a nice peaceful location and it was cool in the...shade to eat outside. I would highly recommend it.
We were headed out for a traditional, Austrian meal walking in the rain), when we passed Pho 18. My girls both said Pho! After a week of wurst, I had to admit a bowl of hot noodles sounded good. First, we shared an order of fresh spring rolls. The spring rolls were exactly as we expected them to be, but they were served with a sweet dipping sauce as opposed to the ubiquitous peanut sauce we get at home. Not a bad change. While not exactly the same as the pho we 're used to eating in Southern California, the pho at Pho 18 was satisfying. Unlike the pho at home, which is served with a big plate of bean sprouts, sliced jalapeños, basil and lime wedges, this came with a bit of shredded iceberg lettuce, a lemon wedge, and a tiny slice of Thai chili. The meat wasn 't the thin shaved beef we find at home, but rather small chunks. It was tender, though. The broth wasn 't as flavorful I suppose they need to make some accommodations for EU palates, but they had a sriracha and fish sauce on the table which we used to adjust to our liking. One of my girls had the bun which also was good. The owners were attentive and friendly surprised that we knew the Vietnamese names for menu items. Prices for this kind of cuisine are higher in Salzburg € 8,50) than we would pay at home, where a big bowl of pho is just $5. But, if you 're craving pho, you won 't be disappointed.
We were in Salzburg to see the Christkindlmarkt and we wanted something to eat other than wurst. This restaurant was a block or so from the square with the gold ball. The pho was good and hit the spot on a cold and drizzly day. The food was a little different from Vietnamese food that I've had in the US, but it was still tasty. The owners were very friendly and hard working. They spoke Vietnamese and German with a bit of English.
A hidden gem in the old town of Salzburg! It is very small so there is no point to come here without a reservation, but if you do then the waiter will probably tell you how much longer might it take until there is a free table so you can come back later. The restaurant has no separate kitchen and that means you see how they prepare their food in a corner of the same room you are sitting in... and that means that you might get the wrong impression of Vientam Pho 18 as being a simple takeaway place, but it is not it is actually a proper restaurant with table service, good prices and a wc (thought I should mention that they have one because with these small restaurants you can never really know..... . Otherwise it is a bit boring, the interior is not that special, but I have heard that they have renovated the place I promise I'll make pictures as soon as I will be there again!
