Overlooking the Red Bull museum of racing cars, bikes, aircraft, artwork, and more.... all set in Hangar 7. wonderfully different, and a nice change from all the old one tends to visit in Europa. Interesting modern Austria. highly recommend. hopefully return. the restaurant rquires advance reservations. the bars not so.
We walked in to hanger 7 with hungry stomachs and of course the famous restaurant is fully booked for the day. The hostess showed us the bar at 2nd floor would still served lunch until 2pm so we wanted to give it a try. They have special lunch dish menu for each day. For instance, today is a Sunday and the menu listed their lunch for sunday is roasted fish. (I forgot the specific name of this kind of fish) other than that we only can order bar food. We were skeptical if these international bar food would keep us happy and full and they cost around 15 euro per item. I ordered the Sunday lunch dish (fish) and my husband ordered the bar food Thai chicken rice noodles. Both of the dishes came in the decent sizes and were so delicious and we were just chatting among friends that of course their dishes are great as they should be under the same management of the restaurants/bar from the Michelin star restaurant down stair that it makes sense things would be good too. We also ordered some other drinks. My hanger 7 mule costs me 12 euro which is above average price and the drink met my standard in the perspective of how much I spent in a drink.
This is a cool museum to visit, as firstly it is free to enter, which is always good. It is well layed out with a good mixture of machines and equipment to look at. Most things have an explanation in English and German, which is not so common in Austria to have explanations in English. For anyone how like motor sports, car and plans, then this is a good museum to visit.
Disclaimer: this review is for Hangar-7 only. I WISH I had been able to make it to Bar Mayday : RB Hangar-7 is located near the Salzburg airport and is a must see for anyone who is visiting the city. It's an ultra mod museum of sorts that houses F-1 racing cars, jets, and even the most expensive Lambo car model in the world. Sidebar: this car model is worth EU 2M and will be auctioned off this December starting at EU 3.5M!!! Fun fact is that all of the jets are fully fueled and there are pilots hanging out onsite. For all of you ballers out there, apparently you can take planes/jets of your choosing out for a joyride. Entry was free for us, and there was a private parking lot right outside. Bar Mayday, which is reportedly one of the best bars/restaurants in the city, has a beautiful corner of the museum. The actual bar area is located in a suspended room hanging from the middle of the ceiling that is reached via skybridge. I am definitely having a drink up there next time around!
