The food was so delicious, the staff was kind and wonderful, and they made us feel at home while eating there. We had a very large group, and they accommodated us wonderfully. I highly recommend this place, and meeting the awesome staff here. Thank you, Star of India!!!
Pathetic food and service You will wait for ages on your food and will regret as soon as you start eating. Trust me I left without eating, and paid approx $30 for just waiting and making sure my order is on my table
Used to visit this joint during my work deputation days at Salt Lake City. Mostly for lunch. Given the place and type of cuisine they make, I have to admit it was a tad bit costly. It may not be the most authentic Indian cuisine, but they try as much they can. Buffet lunch was good, Indian breads were placed freshly made along with tandoori chicken. Sides may need some work on the gravy, but its ok overall. They also have a compact "thali" lunch for quick grab and eat.
I recently spent 5 days in Salt Lake City on Business - while I don't usually write reviews on businesses that I haven't visited at least 2 or 3 times, since it's doubtful I'll be back (or if so that I'll hit the same restaurant) I thought I would provide some general opinions. While not the best Indian I've encountered, I still had a very good meal here and it was super convenient to my hotel, near downtown SLC. There were two Indian guys here who were very helpful (the first did forget about my beer order but I eventually got my Taj Mahal) - the nans were a bit weak and don't bother with the garlic-naan. A little garlic powder does not a garlic-naan make. Unfortunately I found this to be common to Salt Lake. I believe the style is a bit more northern - I'm thinking that due to the wall-paintings which seem to depict the classic Punjabi with the traditional frilled-headdress. The food was good and well-spiced - I ordered the chicken vindaloo extra-spicy and it was fairly hot - still not like the fire you receive in India, mind but I think most Americans would find it hot. This has become my test food for most Indian restaurants, even though the dish is really not a traditional one - I think the first time I tried it was in London and that has set the stage for me - nothing like some late night vindaloo after the pubs, I say. Back to the naan - we asked for it extra crispy and of course it was just the opposite. It really didn't have the consistency you normally find in a real tandoor so it made me wonder if this was just oven-baked. No clue and I forgot to ask. This really impacts my impression of an Indian restaurant - for many Indians the bread is more important than the curries. The remainder of the staff were Asian (not Indian-Asian) women which I found interesting - they did a good job keeping our water glasses filled. For a weekend, the place wasn't packed so we were able to get seated quickly - one of the two guys told us that wasn't the norm but it may have been due to early cold (22 degrees), with an earlier-than-usual temperature inversion going on. Wet, snowy, cold - not many going out to eat in that. independentrestaurantreview.com
