Also, we love the classic rock tunes. Highly recommend the fresh squeezed juices. Plus, they give you free fresh butter tarts when you leave as a sweet thank you!
Nothing like a diner to perk up one’s spirits! Lately, I’ve been on a bit of a diner binge, having old fashioned breakfasts left, right, and centre. The subject of today’s visit is a new, cute little cafe that’s opened up right across from the King Edward Village complex on Knight St.
**Buttermilk Pancakes: $9 (+ $3 for caramelized bananas)** Rating: 4/5 The dish featured two pancakes, a side of potato hash, and my choice of breakfast sausage. Although the pancakes were not very large—I’ve been spoiled by the massive portions at Jethros and the Elbow Room Café—I'd say they were about a quarter the size of those. However, what they may have lacked in size, they more than made up for in flavor: the pancakes were light, soft, and fluffy, without that awful bitter baking soda aftertaste that Jethros’ pancakes often have. The caramelized bananas added a lovely sweetness and a hint of cinnamon. The potato hash was pleasantly crispy, though slightly under-seasoned (a splash of ketchup did the trick). The sausages were well-seasoned, juicy, and had a nice peppery kick. I couldn't tell if they were homemade or store-bought, but I honestly didn’t care—they were delicious and just as good as the ones from Bistro 122. **Complimentary Butter Tart:** Instead of the usual candies or mints with the bill, they serve these delightful tarts. It was fantastic—rich, buttery, and filled with walnuts and cranberries. You can tell that they use high-quality ingredients here.
What a fantastic little spot for breakfast! Located at the corner of Kingsway and Knight Street, this cozy café has around ten tables. We've been coming here for over a year, and breakfast has become quite popular. The portion sizes are generous, and the menu is compact yet offers a nice variety. If the café is full, the one Asian server will eventually come by, and the friendly owner, who also cooks, often comes out to greet customers. It can feel a bit cramped, and when it's busy, service might take a little longer, so be patient.
I really enjoy this café; they serve the best breakfasts and it’s a wonderful addition to the neighborhood. The service is friendly, and I'm particularly fond of their butter tarts!
