Halibut House - Saanich

We decided to give this place a try, it’s always in the top 10 on these social media websites. One site has it in the top 3 Chinese food places in Victoria! That’s a stretch! Currently in July 10 2022 it’s take out only, and open for lunch and dinner only. We have been going to Ho Tong for years and years. They have been consistent with the quality and quantity! I’ve attached 2 pics to this review, I’ll let you decide which one you would choose…. Each pic is from a Combo plate order. Just to give a fair and honest review.. A picture can provide a thousand words. So they say! The Ho Tong is a Combo B in a Tin take out dish. The Halibut House pic is a plastic take out dish.

Just FYI ordered take-out on a few occasions before writing this review. Excellent super friendly front end lady. really makes you feel welcome and is always quick to take ur order once you arrive . and then there's the food. my go to spot closed a year ago and I've been searching for a new plc... and out of all the Chinese spots we have locally. this had The highest review rating, and they definitely deserve it. everything I've tried is amazing. the wonton soup is the only 1 I've tried thy doesn't add sugar to it to americanize it. THANK YOU! and the food is always consistently great. crispy where is should be, saucey when it should be. and always a very good portion. very very happy everytime. oh and did I mention they don't add msg.?! absolutely recommend them to anyone. and am happy to have my new go to! thank you to everyone there for making a great experience for customers : :

We have been to the Halibut House several times..sometimes with others. Never been disappointed. More recently because of Covid we have done take-out. Obviously with take-out things are not as crisp but still delicious. The servers are friendly and efficient. When the place is crowded, the kitchen can be a bit slow. Right now they are only doing take-out.

Had high hopes for this restaurant, but I had a bad experience. Service was meh. Ordered grilled halibut because I was getting it to go. Server entered the incorrect item, wound up with fried. When told of the error the 3 people in the kitchen just looked at each other. Side salad was iceberg lettuce. When you pay $20 for dinner the salad should at least be romaine. I won’t be back anytime soon. Wasn’t impressed

When in Victoria, we love to head to Halibut House. We were introduced to this little place by our daughter, who would sit and study while having a big bowl of Wonton soup. Years later, the owner still asks about her when we go in.
