All food was hot and delicious. We tried chicken and waffles. Chicken Fried steak and my chicken pot pie. All was amazing. Place is clean, not crammed, and cute country style. I would love to return.
Extravaganza!! Literally! My favorite foods served on the side of my other favorite foods. What could be better? I seriously have zero idea. Vegetarian options: In some countries, chicken pie is considered a vegetable. I plan to move there very soon. Dietary restrictions: If you restrict your diet to pie and pie derivatives, you've accomplished something very few have the strength to achieve. Kid-friendliness: I've only ever met one kid who didn't like pie. To this day I still wonder what was wrong with him. Wheelchair accessibility: Yes!
This place hasn’t changed in 70 years. Good comfort food. Simple but good.
I’m 40 years old and have been coming here since I can remember. My family has been coming here before I was even thought of. As prices increase (and I don’t blame the restaurant for that with this crazy inflation) the quality of food keeps going down. The food has lost its “Home Cooked” taste. I’ve only ever order the Pie dinner here since I feel like I can’t break tradition. The quality of the pie dinner used to always be a 5 start meal to me, but as of late it’s lacking. The temperature of the food seems barely above room temperature. It’s warmiah, but never hot. Their Coleslaw is amazing though and deserves 10 Stars! I do try a few bites of other food that is ordered in my group. On our last trip, the Turkey was dry, omelette lacked flavor and tasted very salty. Others dishes seems comparable to a Dennys on a busy night. Although I Know they can get busy, the staff always seem rushed and unfriendly. Not very welcoming. I don’t see myself coming back every month or two like I used too, but maybe once a year just for the traditional value. It’s sad cause friends that I’ve talk to say the same about this place. I just hope it remains a staple of San Diego. I don’t like writing a mediocre review for a place that I once loved, but hope this can help with management making improvements.
Love ubering this place for lunch. I'll share a meal with my coworkers at time. I also like the small pies which are a reasonable serving for one person. They have a good chicken noodle soup and dessert pies. I've yet to try their mac n cheese wish they had a small side of mac n cheese.
