We drove passed a few other local places before second to stop at jackies, mainly for the few and Patio, but sadly the patio was closed so we took ours to go. The food was excellent, I ordered a chicken Caesar, and my boyfriend ordered the two piece chicken, fries dressing and gravy. The total coming to 25 and that was without drinks! His two piece chicken included a leg and a breast. The salad came with apt of dressing (the way I like it) and it tasted homemade! The staff was friendly and very informative on things to see/do in the area. If we are ever in rocky harbour again we will certainly be stopping again!
Food was great but a very long wait. They should except credit cards like other restaurants in the area.
You have to remember you are on "island time" but the food and service are very good. The French fries, meat and gravy are delicious as well as the fish burger. You won't leave hungry!
Yup, it isn't Tim Horton's. Its Jackie's and it's just a small town restaurant located way off the logistical supply chain. Located next to the water, it's a small restaurant with a limited menu. Drop the expectations you have from years of visiting those multi-national corporate food conglomerates and you'll do just fine. Expect fast service? Drive the 50 minutes back east to Deer Lake and get you some corporate take out. Or, just sit back, relax with the fam (like most places in the Newf, crayons are there for the kids,) and order the fish and chips. Newfie's use cod for their fish and chips. Not the disgusting haddock you find down Maine, US. And Jackie's batter is perfectly done. Try to get a seat in the main room as it has a decent view of the water. But if you get put in the front room like we did, just roll with it. You're in Newfoundland, cuz! Enjoy just being! Speaking of Newfoundland, if you prefer brewed iced tea, you're out of luck. No one has brewed tea, Jackie's included. And that's ok. You still have water and soda and bottled tea (which is an acquired taste. bleck.) Maybe beer and wine. But we all need to drink more water anyway. Even if it only comes with three ice cubes. So keep yer coke, I'll just have the smile. (speaking of soda, the eastern Canadian provinces seem to be sponsored by Pepsi Co as it's the only soda available in restaurants and Coke is limited to the reach-in coolers at Irving's.) So, yes, service is a bit longer than what we instant-gratification seekers are used to. Yes, the menu was limited and a lot of it resides on the back side of healthy. But you're on vacation! Enjoy the local fare, ambiance, and yourself. If you're in Rocky Harbour for several days, grace Jackie's with your presence for at least one meal. And for the record, I LOVE Tim Horton's. Best part of my day. 20 count of assorted Timbits and a large dark roast (and keep your filthy cream out of my coffee. I'm never going back.)
