This is a family owned and run business and it's all about the community (how lovely). The family want to share the house and the gardens with the community, and you certainly get that feeling when you walk through the doors, that this isn't just a family home/business, but a community house.Dromkeen is all about art and story telling, so if these things are not your proverbial cup-of-tea, this may not be the place for you. Whilst the small cafe provides good quality cafe-style food (as good as anything you would get in the CBD), this place is not about the food, it's more "come for the art; the gardens and the house - stay for some food). This is a business committed to promoting art and artists and providing community-driven events for both adults and children to attend.I think it's a niche market, as the concept is a little quirky and alternative, but I loved it, and really enjoyed it, and will definitely return - but it's not for everybody.Having said that, it really is worth it just to see the grand old house, learn about the history and experience the beautiful gardens - many of the plants are original from when the house was first built. This wonderful family are opening up their home to the community as they recognise that it is a house of historical significance to the are that should be shared with everybody and not just for a privileged few, and for that reason alone, it is well worth visiting.I loved it! Give it a try if you're in town.
"We discovered this lovely gem located on Kilgore road in the direction of Monegeeta. We parked our car, strolled through the park, and then enjoyed the book-themed gallery. The friendly staff and excellent coffee made our experience even better."
This was originally the place of the children's library that has now been taken to the public library in Melbourne. It now hosts school groups to visit and also various art exhibitions especially of children's literature. Tea rooms are exscellent. Suggest check the web sit for opening hourse.
This charming historical homestead features a gallery showcasing original artwork from children's books. The welcoming hosts offer delicious snacks and excellent coffee, all within sprawling gardens. The house holds historical importance and often hosts children's programs related to the book theme. Additionally, there is a function center available for rent, making it a versatile venue. It is recommended to check operating hours beforehand, as they are limited. As a local resident, I frequently visit and enjoy the experience.
The staff is wonderful, the desserts are excellent, the coffee is great, and the exhibits are interesting. When you combine them all, it makes for a fantastic place to visit.
