I got to the shop very close to their closing time so the choices of cooked pies were slim, luckily they had the classic chicken pot pie that I went there to try. Looking over their menu, their jambalaya balls caught my eye as well so I ordered a small order. The guy behind the counter said it would take 4-5 minutes. My order was up a little quicker and as the guy was packing it up, another guy came around the back (which I think was the owner) and offered me their last pie in the case free of charge. Free...of course I took it...It was the Gumbo pie. Note that this isn't a sit down place, so if you want to order and eat here, you will have to eat it outside their little shop, as they don't have indoor seating. They have quite a bit of pie choices, as well empanadas on their menu to choose from and also offer frozen, bake at home pies as well. Now for the food itself, to be honest, I didn't have high expectations...but was surprised how flavorful everything was. I loved the the jambalaya balls, it was crisp on the outside and filled with rice, chicken, sausage on the inside. I dipped it in their cilantro lime sour cream and it was so good. The pies were delicious as well, great filling to pie crust ratio and delicious. The pie crust was nice and flaky, even the day after. My husband really enjoyed the classic chicken pot pie and I enjoyed the unique flavors of the gumbo pie. If you haven't tried this place yet, you should...true comfort food. I will be back to try their other pies, maybe get them frozen so I have a quick weeknight dinner for the family.
I tried the place for the first time today. I bought a chicken pot pie for my kid, $12.99 out the door. It was smaller than i thought it would be. The filling was a single large piece of chicken, not cut up, with the other ingredients. Tasty but kinda pricey.
Because we're gluttons we ordered a slew of different empanadas and pot pies to share family style and there wasn't a l in the bunch. The pastry was flaky and all were filled with high quality, tasty ingredients. I was really impressed with the amount of chicken in the chicken pot pie we just kelp pulling out giant chunks of chicken breast. It was as good as homemade only better because we didn't have to make it. My partner had the pork and sweet potato empanada and was in love, he said it was chock full of pork and tasted really lovely, he really enjoyed the turmeric pastry as well. The mac cheese balls were really good too crispy on the outside and delicious cheesy pasta inside. The cheeseburger empanada was flaky and filled with ground beef and cheese, it was delicious with the burger dipping sauce. The sesame crust around the beef and mushroom empanada was flavorful and really complimented the beef, mushroom and peas inside, oh and the peas weren't over cooked, they still had just the right bite. Honestly, the pot pies are easily enough for two people, especially if you get a side of balls and maybe a small salad. I'm a big eater and I barely finished two empanadas, one jambalaya ball (that was SO GOOD) and a mac cheese ball. Of course we're already making plans to go again. It's a little out of the way for us but totally worth the drive. Also, while you're there, do yourself a favor and get a couple of frozen pot pies we've got a couple in the freezer for a rainy day.
I stopped in randomly this week and was excited to try various items on the menu. I wasn't aware that pre-orders are recommended so there wasn't food up front and ready, though a few pot pie options were available shortly after. I opted for an original chicken pot pie and the chile verde with pork. I love how they label the type of meat in their pies. One had a little chicken baked onto the crust and the other a pig. They seemed a little pricey but once I realized how heavy and full they were once I got home. My husband and I couldn't finish them on our own. The chile verde was totally filled with pork! Both were really tasty. I look forward to pre-ordering next time because the empanadas sound amazing. Be advised that there isn't a place to sit and eat inside. It's strictly take-out. The staff was friendly and I was greeted immediately.
I don't care how politely you were raised, you're gonna at least cuss your momma out after one forkful of the chicken pot pie. Nothing has a right to taste this good. There will be consequences if you let this deliciousness in your life.
