I still had some pesos left in my pocket and wanted to have lunch before flying back to LAX. Across the street from the airport are a few local restaurants that serve really good food at low low prices. Just walk across the pedestrian bridge and your there. We always check in early to our flights and I had plenty of time to eat a good meal and have a Mexican beer before departure. I also wanted to sit and relax at the airport and have a beer but the bar wanted $5 USD for one beer, forget it, walk across the street.
This Fonda Flor was in Old Town just off Insurgentes on Carranza. Haven’t ever seen the airport location. It was packed full of locals always a good sign. We had tender carne asada and fish tacos with papas. Both were fantastic, served with beans and rice of course, and a cup of so so chicken noodle soup (Campbell’s? as a starter and fresh tortillas. Ice cold Jamaica water was free, and each entree was a whopping 55 pesos. My husband ordered a Coca Light, and we watched our server run around the corner to the minimart to buy it. That added another 20 pesos to the bill. So for 130 pesos and a 30 peso tip we got lunch for around $8.
Waiting for an international flight I tried updating my computer. Two months prior this was a free option at the pizza stand. Now you must go to the bar and buy a drink in order to access the Internet. Pure greed! Why? You'll never change your image with such an attitude.
