The park rangers provide excellent tours, regardless of the weather. Parking is free and convenient, making it easy to enjoy outdoor activities right after a 45-minute tour.
A significant figure in American history and a champion of the American Red Cross movement, her home serves as a tranquil oasis in the heart of Washington, D.C. It’s a visit well worth making for both tourists and locals alike. Nearby, Glen Echo Park is another hidden gem worth exploring.
The restaurant was closed for renovations in 2017, but during our previous visit, it was fascinating to discover what women accomplished during that time and how the American Red Cross evolved from its origins. We even learned that the basic first aid kit was likely conceived and assembled there! For those of us who volunteered for the American Red Cross, visiting made even more sense.
Visit them when they are in the glen echo area. clara barton lived here later in her life. they must be accompanied by a park ranger to the interior of the house. the tour is worth it and takes about 1 hour. they are about the history of the house and what it was used (no spoiler.) there are every hour tours. check the NPS website for the timetable.
My parents actually lived there during WWll times. There are tales to tell.
