Great food and service! I was a little confused about the menu choices were different on weekends against weekdays. I had extended the menu online before the time and had some things in mind that I wanted to try that were not currently offered. When I asked, they were happy to make them.
They advertised to be open at Christmas. They proposed reservations, which means they expected a whole house. Then why have they occupied only one person for the kitchen and the bar? In a restaurant serving labour-intensive cuisine? They also had 2 waiters and no host. We arrived at our reservation time and sat right away. From there was just waiting longer and longer. 5 minutes for the menu, 15 minutes for the order are taken, and then the food never arrived. We waited 45 minutes and 5 of 6 tables didn't get food while more cartridges came. One table that got food got him at a time. My companion went 2 times from the kitchen and saw no one there. We put money for our drinks on the table and left. The ambience was beautiful, except that some seriously clinked wires together with messy Gaffers tape are held on all hanging lamps. (We probably wouldn't have noticed, but we had a lot of time to look around. The staff we interacted with was very pleasant. I wish I knew how the food was. I can say they have really bad planning / forecasting skills. Not good for a kitchen that depends so much on freshness. I can be back to give them another chance. Maybe not.
That was the second time I was dining at Kuu. Maybe it was because this was the Christmas day, but the restaurant was just a quarter filled, but we ended up at about 30 40 minutes before our dinner was served. A couple at the next table ended and did not wait for their food. The food portions were smaller and more unlusty than the first time I had eaten in Kuu despite this meal. The server was friendly. The inequality of food and waiting time in the two times that I have dined at Kuu was huge.
This place is delicious and we'll be back had some sushi, sake, miso soup, and taiyaki, and everything was absolutely perfect. A fun stop for date night! The tuna krab salmon roll had a good kick to it but the white tiger roll was our favorite. The taiyaki here was our first having it and I'm kind of obsessed now. Yum!
