The Hairy Lobster - Portland

This is not a sea food restaurant. The food was very good and the menu was simple and flavorful. The wine list was incredibly long (with a small font size of about a 5),complicated and overpriced (I would guess 5 times the retail). The wine list was so complicated that I honestly think there should be a sommelier on staff. That would help in choosing the wine and I could justify the overpriced wine list. The wait staff was not trained for serving the wine. When we received our wine it was not of proper temperature. A certified Somm would not have allowed that. If you are going for the food only, then yes I recommend. If you are going for a wine/food experience there are many other restaurants in Portland.

We really enjoy this restaurant. The food is unique combinations of interesting flavors served on old china. Sharing small plates is fun. Service is fabulous. The servers provide realistic estimates of what is reasonable and make great drink recommendations. I can't recommend this enough.

I went to this restaurant for my birthday dinner and thoroughly enjoyed every dish we ordered. My highlights were the mushroom bisque and hanger steak. We also had a fantastic cocktail and the wine selection was excellent. Thank you for a wonderful evening!
