Behind The Museum Café - Portland

I absolutely love this restaurant's onigiri. The rice blend is amazing! Whenever I'm leaving for Seattle, I always grab a few onigiri to take with me. The matcha bowl was a little clumpy last time I visited, but that's not something that usually happens. I highly recommend this place - it's adorable and the servers are very friendly.

I don't usually go out of my way to leave reviews (mostly because I forget but as I'm creating a list of Portland recommendations for some visiting friends, this is one cafe at the top of my list! We discovered this spot a couple months ago and have been in twice. The atmosphere is so so so restful and inspiring. The staff was friendly both times. Most importantly, the ceremonial usucha matcha was great quality and properly prepared. The desserts were lovely; the matcha and hojicha brownies are the same served at the Portland Japanese Garden! Food wise, we've only had the onigiri so far and those were enjoyable it's just nice to find a casual spot that serves it without hiking up prices (we look forward to trying more food and dessert items . The displayed art is also available for purchase so it's fun to see what's on the walls when you walk in; it's also just a very beautiful space to sit in thanks to the mix of the art, architecture and window light. My husband and I aim to drop by here at every opportunity when we pass through the downtown area :

The restaurant offers a great selection of high-quality matcha, including various options to choose from. They also have delicious vegan onigiri available as a food choice. Additionally, there are charming handmade items for sale that add to the overall experience.

The atmosphere was incredible and the staff were fantastic. This was hands down the best meal I have ever had. It was definitely worth the price. This review was updated on 18th October 2022.

We went to this restaurant for coffee and tried a matcha soy latte and matcha soft serve. The apparent manager informed us that none of the food was vegan, so be mindful of that. The matcha latte was good, the coffee was alright, and the soft serve was our favorite.
